A Little Different M416 Trailer Build

I made some good progress today.
I welded up the Masterlock pad so I can now secure the inside contents of the trailer.
I used some 1¾ 120 wall tubing I had laying around as a handle.
Lastly, I welded up the hinges..
All-in-all a pretty good day..
Still much to do....

Do the lid like the tilt bed of a Unimog. AKA use ball in socket arrangement in all 4 corners. Pin down all 4 sockets too hold lind down. You unpin two sockets opposite where you want to hinge for that moment and lift the lid. If you want to lift the lid from a different side you unpin a different pair of sockets opposite where you want to lift. If you want to remove lid.... you unpin all 4 and lift it off/raise it up.

Completely agree with the weather stripping. I added some to my lid and it has made a world of difference in keeping out the rain. Not to mention that doesn't cost a lot. I got mine at Lowes. I think the overlap of the lid is a great idea just didn't think about it when I made mine.

Your trailer is looking good, I have loved working on and using mine.

Thank you for all the above feedback, I appreciate the guidance.
I will take all the great points into consideration as I continue to move forward.
I didn't think about the weather strip deadening squeaking aside from the other benefits, good call.
It will be a few weeks before I can knock out any more ...
Thank you again...

I used Duplicolors etching primer to spray down the trailer today. Next step is using some filler primer and then sanding.....

Alright, picking up tires tomorrow (Friday) for the trailer.
I have narrowed it down to one of the below two:

BFG KM2 - Price for 2 mounted $562.00

GoodYear Wrangler Kevlar Mud Terrains - Price for 2 mounted $617.00

Whichever I choose above I will also eventually put them on the Jeep.
I have read some articles online and now I am looking for some opinions from you.
I am leaning towards the wranglers, since they look like they would fit my two important categories 1) highway handling 2) wheeling through deep pacific north west snow (my personal favorite, pushing snow with the front grill/bumper).

THOUGHTS / SUGGESTIONS???

thank you ahead of time for any feedback...

Ended up with the GoodYear MTR's 35x12.5 R15...

Now to assemble the trailer and start working on the telescoping rack for the roof top tent.

Ordered my gas springs for the lid from www.liftsupportdepot.com tonight.
28 inches extended with 150 pounds of thrust. I ordered two, one for each side.
My lid is extremely heavy, I think I over built it and then some.
I am hoping the gas springs not only assist in lifting it open but keep it open until I pull it closed.
We shall see...

Thats what I was worried about. I almost ordered 200# each but figured I'd start at 150# and then exchange them for 200# if that didn't work. Can you post a pic of yours and how you mounted the bracketry, I'd appreciate it...
Thank you again.

Made a little headway today.
I bolted up the axle and wheels, then I set the body on top. Body isn't bolted down yet.
I still need to:
- Weld on shock mounts.
- Make base platforms that I can build a telescoping rack for the roof top tent.
- Fab up some tube fenders.
Then take it all down and paint the body to match the jeep, Rhino line the inside and flat top portion of lid (to set kayaks on), take the frame to the powder coater.
After all that I can put it back together, hook up brake lights, hook up electric brakes, exterior lighting, interior lighting, install parking brake, tongue box with 2 deep cycle batteries, solar panels and buy my roof top tent and batwing awning, load levelers and a few more nick nacks...
Hoping to still be done before December 1st for snow camping... :)
