I'm the facility administrator for a GC, GC/MS, QQQ/MS training lab and interact daily with research geeks, big pharma geeks, and geeks of all persuasions. I'm pretty up to date on current research...

Eat what you want. Sooner or later they've all been coming to me though. Most recently my staunchest hold-out, our resident spectrophotometer/uv-vis specialist; I'll have a sit-down with him after he recovers from the angioplasty.

******** experts everywhere , I love Huevos Rancheros . There's a place in Scottsdale I go to at least 3 times a week when I'm at my home there! I like a great salad, as long as it's dressed right ! And to tell you the truth baby back ribs, a great New York steak , not to mention a well seasoned prime rib. Frozen you girt and Cold stone ice cream. I love to hike , kayak and stay off grid for weeks at a time. The gym has always been one of my best friends ! Followed by a great cigar. Planning excursions is great as is following through with them. And don't get me started on Vodka and scotch :) Chopin & Mcallon :) . I am off this thread now.... What good is life without fun , joy and of course some balance !! Go ahead and live life with a smile till it's over , and stop being so dang judge mental . I'm going to die, but I'm going to " live" till then

Mods, can we add veganism to the list of banned topics along with politics and religion? No one clicked on this thread to get diet advice. :coffee:

"Period"? As in yours is the final say in the matter? Really? Yes, cholesterol is in animals... HDL, not LDL. LDL comes from metabolizing sugar, such as, well sugar, and ANY grain (rice, wheat, oat and especially corn). That fat around your heart is from sugar. That fat specifically around your liver is from fructose. The things sugar does to the blood insulin levels is not to be believed. My cholesterol dropped over 40 points (to 180) by reducing sugar - and I still eat my USDA prime steaks, bacon, baby backs/pork etc. But be sure to choose meats based on... what the animal eats. Grass fed is very superior. Cheap meats = cheap feed, which = bad feed with hormones and antibiotics.

Remember, doctors are always "practicing" medicine. They're human too, and will try to sway you. Do your own research.

"Fat makes you skinny". That's something near the title of a new book out by an MD. It also happens to be a quote from my grandmother over 50 years ago. She was right! ;)

We gave up refined sugars, white rice/pasta, and commercially sourced meats years ago and couldn't be happier. All of the meat in our freezer is from the elk I shot, grass fed beef from a cow where I personally know the ranch owners of where it came from, trout and salmon that I caught and filleted, and organic chicken. Our eggs are free range I buy locally from a friend of the family, and we typically only buy uncured bacon and naturally raised pork. If a fruit/vegetable is on the dirty dozen list we buy it organic, and eat a lot of quinoa, barley, and brown rice/pasta. My wife looks better now than when we got married and we both run a few 5k's each year always placing in the top 10 in our age groups, it's amazing the extra energy you feel when you eat better, and when you eat better you have less crap in your system to work off around the waistline. Does it cost more to eat this way, of course it does, but we refuse to be a drain on society or leave medical bills for our children to pay after a long and painful death. That being said, we do tend to cheat a little bit when camping or on vacation(like egg, chorizo, and potato breakfast burritos), but are quick to curb such behavior when we are home. Now if only I could give up salty snacks.

My neighbor, who is a doctor (GP), has always said that the best way to a healthy and long life is to choose your parents well.

That being said, I made a video a couple of years ago at our campsite on the Mojave Road near Marle Springs - Huevos con Chorizo Breakfast:
