so I am starting a new one.
In the above thread I learned about Gaia mapping/GPS software.
On my HTC One phone and my new NVIDIA Shield K1 tablet I run both Back Country Navigator, and Gaia, the paid versions.
My tablet is Wi-Fi only, so naturally when I leave the confines of my recliner and venture to my FJ Cruiser, I lose the signal, and no map shows.
I know you can download maps online to use when offline, but with BCN I found it difficult to draw an area.
I fired up my tablet yesterday and turned on Gaia and went to the Greenwater area where I like to explore the old logging roads and camp.
I clicked up download and got a good portion of Greenwater.
Well I decided since this works, why not try and download my entire state of Washington.
Well the latter would not work, to many tiles it said.
So I drew a box around most of the Western half of Washington state, and it said I could do it at 49,496 tiles, and 346.5 mb.
I have a 64 GB card in it, so no worries.
This morning I took a trip to the local Fred Myers stores and back, and I hit record, and it recorded the whole route, plus the entire map showed for my area with no broken tiles.
Pretty coo!
I am confident now when I leave my place to take a drive up to Greenwater it will show the map the whole way when I am driving there,
Cannot wait to hit record one I turn off the highway and start exploring old growth logging roads for new and old campsites there, and to be able to make waypoints too.
I am sold on Gaia, it is good mapping software.
It also shows me the elevations, time of trip moving, and idle, and also the total number of miles.
It will also in the future allow me to navigate back to a campsite that I documented.

I have played around with a few, and I think this map overlay is my favorite one so far.
