Tires for stock 2006 2500HD 6.0

I have a stock GMC 2500HD 6.0 4x4 with 4.10 gears. It still has Bridgestone LT245/75r16 tires on it. It gets on average 12.9 mpg per the computer and is fairly revy on the freeway.

I am trying to decide between LT235/85r16 and LT255/85r16 tires for it. I am leaning towards the LT255/85r16 in Toyo M55's or something similar. If I go for the LT235/85r16 I'll likely go BFG K02.

How much will by MPG suffer or improve changing to these tires?

I would go with the 255/85R16's or 285/75R16's. The taller tire profile should help you reduce your highway revs. You may notice the truck becoming a bit more sluggish but I doubt very much. The 235's and 285's are easy to find at tire stores in case you have a blowout. The 255's not so much.

I have a 2004 Silverado 2500HD with the same 6.0 and 4.10. I used to have 265/75 r16 and got 13mpg, and now run on 285/75 r16 and get 12mpg, and going 65mph I get around 2100rpm.

2005 2500HD 6.0/4L80E/4.10s. I've got torsion bars turned up a bit (maybe a little higher than the truck would have been new), I'm running 35x12.5R17s. Last fill up, I got 10.5 MPG (US).

I got a crazy good deal on the 35s mounted and balanced on the rims, otherwise I would likely be running 255s or 285s.

Lots of pavement with a decent amount of California firetrails.

Stick with the 235/85r16, you have a lot more choices/options in that size and will see better mpg than the 255 or 265, I ran the 235 Cooper AT3's's on my stock suspension k2500 that saw many narrow hunting trails and never felt I needed "more tire". Sure, some folks don't like the skinny tire "look", but it's a truck that gets used and looks are not the most important factor to most.

Ouch, I get 12.5mpg in our 2003 Yukon 2500 with the 6.0 and 3.73's.

For what it's worth, I never saw better MPG with 235's than 265's on my Tacoma. Both returned about 19mpg (kept track on my 100 mile daily commute--same terrain, climate, etc.). There are more tire selection with 265's as well.
