You may be right that it's not a native speaker but he may be trying to explain that it's a high frequency inverter.

These are sort of the concepts.

A regular inverter (typically marketed as pure sine if its modulated & heavily filtered):

A high frequency inverter:

The advantage to this is a HF transformer will be a lot smaller than one you'd have to use at low frequency. It would generate an intermediate AC in the ~50KHz range that is rectified, stored in Lf/Cf and a low frequency AC output generated. IOW, DC->AC->DC->AC. Not completely sure what he might mean in 3-phases other than he's referring to the alternator.

In either case the transformer is necessary for galvanic isolation (safety) and so that you can earth the output.

Actually re-reading that statement, it's probably not a HF inverter but just an alternator & rectifier (e.g. "AC/DC") for the inverter ("to AC"). It's probably a relatively clean PWM inverter and probably does not have a transformer at all.

I agree, I think he's just attempting to descibe the normal AC to DC to AC conversion that all inverter generators do.
