Opinions on a 2001 Subaru Forester

Looking for some opinions, advice, or even some humourous replies. The question is, what would you do with a 15 year old subaru forester?

Background - I have a 2001 Subaru Forester with 200K on the odometer. First car I've ever bought new, and I've done all the maintenance myself. In that time it's been my commuter car, roadtrip car, road rally/rallycross, camping and off road vehicle, impromptu pickup truck, and done almost anything else I needed it to do. Originally I had plans to do some type of "expedition" vehicle like FozRoamer's awesome forester, but after researching and pricing out lift kits, winches, skid plates, etc, I realized it was never going to be as capable as I wanted so I ended up buying an FJ40 for "real" off roading. Now with 2 kids, its' not really big enough to be a family vehicle, so a Mini-van has taken it's place as the daily driver, and I'll eventually be getting a GX70 for family camping vehicle, so the forester has basically been relegated to a spare car or loaner car for family members. Right now I use it as a trailhead vehicle/airport shuttle, as in I can leave it parked for weeks in sketchy areas and not have to worry about someone stealing it. Once in a while I'll take it to Home Depot if I need to pick up stuff when I don't want to empty out the minivan or get it dirty. But for the most part it sits in my backyard collecting dust, and maybe sees 1000 miles a year at most.

Current condition of the car
-New timing belt, headgasket, seals.
-Tires are fairly new
-New radio
- Clearcoat is peeling, so it's not much to look at.
- lots of Dings and dents, so I'm not afraid to get any more.
- 100% reliable, I could drive across the country tomorrow if needed.

So my options are

1. Sell it. Probably only worth $2k due to mileage and condition of paint. I'd just rather keep it because having a spare car is worth more to me than the money I'd get.
2. Do nothing and just let it sit around collecting dust.
3. Do something like this. A set of 1.5" Ironman springs, maybe a strut lift and skidplate. I have a lightbar that used to be on it, and I had a winch that I bought a long time ago and never put on. Not sure what I would do with it after it's all done, but it' be cool.

So what would everyone else do with it?

Option 3 for sure! Make it a fun, off road rig and have a blast. I would keep it SUPER cheap. Some springs or maybe just spacers (if they exist). Skids, and that's it. That'd be a fun vehicle.

IMG_0298.JPGI'd vote for a mild lift, skids, some aggressive tires, roof rack, lights, plastidip/ bedliner, etc. See how cheap you can do a bada** Subaru fun car. I'm sure I did mine for well under $1k, not including the tires.

imo, if you still rallyx id say buff it out for that. it can always double as a secondary off road vehicle if you need it to with that setup. if not sell it to another needy person and focus your money on rigs you still love and can improve for family travel. stuff like recovery gear, additional storage, etc.

Thanks for all the advice. Right now I don't really rally or do anything with it, and it's not my daily driver anymore.

I do like the idea of modding it, mainly because I've always wanted to and since I don't drive it very often I don't have to worry about being practical anymore. But there's the dilemma, I don't drive it that much so spending money modding it could probably be put to better use on one of my other cars. And one of the main reasons I do use it is because it's a completely nondescript vehicle that gets no attention, adding stuff onto it kinda takes away from that stealth factor.

For some reason I can't embed pics, but here are a few pictures of the various stages it went through during the last decade or so. Currently it everything has been removed so it looks same as stock form with the exception of tinted windows.

EDIT: Figured out how to embed pics
