Looking for some opinions, advice, or even some humourous replies. The question is, what would you do with a 15 year old subaru forester?
Background - I have a 2001 Subaru Forester with 200K on the odometer. First car I've ever bought new, and I've done all the maintenance myself. In that time it's been my commuter car, roadtrip car, road rally/rallycross, camping and off road vehicle, impromptu pickup truck, and done almost anything else I needed it to do. Originally I had plans to do some type of "expedition" vehicle like FozRoamer's awesome forester, but after researching and pricing out lift kits, winches, skid plates, etc, I realized it was never going to be as capable as I wanted so I ended up buying an FJ40 for "real" off roading. Now with 2 kids, its' not really big enough to be a family vehicle, so a Mini-van has taken it's place as the daily driver, and I'll eventually be getting a GX70 for family camping vehicle, so the forester has basically been relegated to a spare car or loaner car for family members. Right now I use it as a trailhead vehicle/airport shuttle, as in I can leave it parked for weeks in sketchy areas and not have to worry about someone stealing it. Once in a while I'll take it to Home Depot if I need to pick up stuff when I don't want to empty out the minivan or get it dirty. But for the most part it sits in my backyard collecting dust, and maybe sees 1000 miles a year at most.
Current condition of the car
-New timing belt, headgasket, seals.
-Tires are fairly new
-New radio
- Clearcoat is peeling, so it's not much to look at.
- lots of Dings and dents, so I'm not afraid to get any more.
- 100% reliable, I could drive across the country tomorrow if needed.
So my options are
1. Sell it. Probably only worth $2k due to mileage and condition of paint. I'd just rather keep it because having a spare car is worth more to me than the money I'd get.
2. Do nothing and just let it sit around collecting dust.
3. Do something like this. A set of 1.5" Ironman springs, maybe a strut lift and skidplate. I have a lightbar that used to be on it, and I had a winch that I bought a long time ago and never put on. Not sure what I would do with it after it's all done, but it' be cool.
So what would everyone else do with it?
