Ancient Mayan City Tikal, Guatemala

Tikal is the best ruins we have seen, hands down. Ruins are in the heart of the jungle and it took us 4 hours to walk through in hot, humid weather. We almost had the whole ruins to ourselves. It was just amazing.

Been in that area and did some of the ruins back in 1998.
Onto the subject of Chicken feet. A friends wife is allergic to something in the commercial products so he uses Chicken feet to make chicken broth for his cooking.

I was curious to how much rain you are running into, seems like the climate and vegetation would suggest lots of rain from lower Mexico on.

Although it is rainy season here at Central America (we are in Tela, Honduras right now), weather has been mostly great. We only had 4-5 days of continuous rain in Antigua, Guatemala while we were staying in front of Hostal Antiguana but it was still enjoyable. It rains almost everynight here and days are usually sunny and hot. Terrain is amazingly green and furtile in every county we have been since Mexico.

10 Months on the road

Today marks our 10th month on the road. So far we drove 16560 miles and flown ~12000 miles more, visited 8 countries and made countless memories. For those who are dreaming of a similar trip, we highly recommend it.

Honduras

We spent 11 great days with friends, @clunkmonkey and @wirsinddannmalweg in Tela, Honduras, a country most of North Americans are afraid to travel. Border crossing was easy, police were kind and courteous, people were friendly and helpful.

Absolutely love the pics and descriptions. Very interesting to read about your families travels from your (female) perspective. It gave me quite a bit of insight to what my wife is probably thinking half the time. Keep up the great thread!

Costa Rica

We are taking another big detour from the PanAm highway and flying from Costa Rica to Germany today. We will be picking up my brother's car in Dusseldorf and driving to Turkey. We are excited for European roads but sad to leave our rig in a parking lot. At least we found him a friend, RunningfromMonday's capable truck. We will be back at the end of October and continue our journey to Patagonia. We are also looking forward to spend more time in amazing Costa Rica when we come back.
