Bill to Create Pilot Program for Mileage-Based User Fee

Several states are--and already have been for some time--looking into mileage fee programs. Since this topic came up in a thread I recently started about a recent Oregon vehicle fee program I thought folks might find the topic merits its own thread.

Well, now New York and Kentucky are whispering about this, too.

Although, by the grace of God, Maryland has introduced a bill that would actually prohibit mileage-based taxes!

That's what the gas tax money is supposed to be for. Now that they've coerced and regulated people into higher-MPG or electric vehicles, The Beast can't tolerate a modest decline in fuel tax revenues, so it designs a new way to increase our taxes. Tell them NO, in as forceful a manner as you can contrive.

I suspect some vehicles won't be driven much, the mileage fee won't generate enough revenue,so a base fee will have to be added.
If the system uses GPS,the vehicles speed, dates, times and destinations of your travel will never be used by government agencies,or sold to private entities.

Legislation in MD can be somewhat partisan (major understatement designed to tiptoe around forum rules on political discussions).

Not sure what the background on this being introduced in MD at this time but would not necessarily expect this particular piece of legislation to survive the process.

Is that supposed to be satire? I trust the government with any more of my private information and securing that about as much as I'd trust Bill Clinton alone at night in a sorority house.
