Weight, bolt pattern to match tow rig, electric brakes - all reasons to change the axle. I'm doing a M116A2, which is the flat bed version of this trailer, and haven't decided if I want to go to the trouble of swapping or not.

I too just purchased a M116A2, and will get it mid June. Looking for ideas also, will mount a roof top tent on it, other than that i have no ideas. Haven't even seen mine yet :D

Quick update, finally got a rack built for the M101A3 trailer to mount my RTT and ARB awning. Close to the finish line, I'll post a video walkaround when it's complete.

Camping with my boys...
it will have a pullout kitchen, solar, and maybe a RTT later on.

Love it. Right now I'm going with a RTT, ARB awning and I have a propane tank mount. That's about it, might add a solar/battery setup in the future, possibly a water tank.

I put in a storage locker inside and side panels with access doors and Rhino lined it

I made the back hatch and cut the tailgate, built the bumper for the Humvee tire carrier, relocated the modified taillights up higher.

Did a little more work today, finished installing the cargo tiedowns in the bed, and pulled the rack off the trailer for paint. IMG_20181020_173928.jpgIMG_20181020_173907.jpg

Finally finished the build, took about 2 years chipping away... but I'm glad it's finally done. I took the trailer out for a shakedown run at Bartlett Lake, AZ last weekend and took it through some pretty rough terrain. It was amazing, the ground clearance is awesome, and the pintle hitch made it easy going over anything, the articulation is incredible. I do want to secure the rack legs to the trailer a little higher up the side, but other than that, it's exactly what I intended to build, a no frills gear hauler with a RTT big enough for the whole family, an awning for a kitchen area and a small propane tank. After the holidays I plan on doing some cold camping in Northern Arizona. All in I'm at around $4000 dollars for the entire project, not too shabby. And I have plenty of space to add more stuff in the future, a battery/solar set up, or a water tank with heater. Here's the approx. cost breakdown for the build:

Trailer: $685
Sandblasting & Paint: $700
Custom Tarp: $140
Wheels and Tires: $225
Custom Rack: $800
ARB 2500x2500 Awning: $300
Smittybilt Overlander XL RTT: $880
Propane Tank & Mount: $170
Shocks: $80
Lights/Harness: $40
