What do you need to do to put 17s on a 06 rubicon unlimited? Will a 1" body lift do it or do I need more? It's a daily driver but I like some weekend fun too ..

I'd stick with the stock 16" wheels, go 3" lift and you should fit 33" tires no problem.

17 inch wheels would not be a problem at all if you stay with a tire that is the same height as your current tire.
How tall of a tire do you want to run? I would go with a 265/75/16. You could keep you current wheels and would only need a Budget boost 2inch lift. If you want to go this 17 inch wheels I would run. 255/70/17 or a 265/70/17. I have never used this size before so I have no recommened brand. Generally 17inch tire are more $$ then 16inch

I don't like body lifts. a 2inch budget boost is easy to install.

17" tires are probably quite a bit shorter than what you've got already...so you should clear your fenders A-OK. As for your differentials, well...

I was thinking of using a set of 17s off of a 2009 wrangler rubicon

I did not check the difference in height of the ruby 16s and the ruby 17s.

If you're thinking newer ruby 17s (only rubicon 17s that I know of) they are just under a 33" tire.

BUT, and this is a BIG BUT

They won't fit an 06. They have a different bolt pattern. 5on 5 instead of the 06's 5 on 4.5.

you might be able to find some spidertrax style adapters f you really wanted to though.

The stock BFG Mud on the 07+ Rubicon should be a 255/75-17 (about 32x10) on 17x7.5s, but as Alosix mentioned the bolt pattern is different.
