Has anyone been pulled up on this?

I think you would be very unlucky for that to happen, but the biggest issue is if you were in an accident, as your insurance would not pay out if it is deemed that your tyres are "illegal".

That Gumtree ad is very confusing - it sounds like they are calling them "8.25 / 85 x 16" in the title (which are 34 inch in diameter) but the photo shows it as a "325 / 85 x 16" which is a 37 inch tire - I guess the guy misread the sidewall numbers?

There also are the 255/100R16 "YELLOW SEA" Chinese tires with a rating of 126/124K 8D - at least these are available in the BC, Canada area.

They are a MICHELIN XZL CLONE with a 3740 LBS single tire rating.

255/100/16 is about the same as 37x12.50R16

Looking closer I have just realised the front rims are different to the rear. Can't believe I never noticed this. Now we need to add rims to the shopping list .

What rims are on it front/rear?
If you are buying rims, might as well bite the bullet and go to 17s? I do have a set of 6.5" split rims for sale with worn 255s if you're interested ;P

Will check what they are. Front stick out further than the rear. Have the 19.5s on our other truck from ATW, and they have been great, but I must admit I like the look of the 17s with a chunky tyre.

Might pass on the 6.5s splits. But good try.

If you're upgrading rims, consider this tyre 37x13.5R17 131Q Gladiator, the issue I could not solve was finding a 10inch wide rim for them to fit and then finding an engineer that would certify them.
Tyres costs about $366each which is a lot cheaper than the TOYOs in the same size.

Cheers steve

Im a little confused, are they 117 or 131? Says 131 on the title description, but 117 in tech details and 1180kg which would be much too light for a canter?

They are a 131, rang and checked, imported by EVA (expedition vehicles Australia)
