Changed one of the straps around, Ill post the video once it uploads.

Need to clean the rest of the crap up in the back of the JK.

With the spare inside i need to get a retrofitoffroad cover to keep things clean..

Im close to 300#s and I can grab the spare and shake the Jeep without the tire moving.

Im sure you all are tired of seeing these but this is the update on my spare tire strapped in.

ETA: Ive used NRS straps for decades, but these are all brand new.

Ideally the tire would be best on the passenger side since the gas tank on the drivers side, but that would make a bigger blind spot on the right side.

I have more straps on order and a second spare tire and rim on order.

I like this configuration. i like the tire on on the driver side so Ill leave it there, and carry the second spare when I feel I need a second spare on the passenger side. Otherwise Ill leave it as is for the single spare.

2 tires in the back doesn't leave much room for the the dog, but thankfully she is small. I still need to stash and strap my crap down better before letting the dog back there.

Rather than messing around with straps, here's an inner spare mount design idea for you. It wouldn't be too hard to fabricate, a bit of 14-gauge steel and some steel angle. On the floor it bolts to the tie-down points. It has a clamp that goes around the roll bar just above the seat belt retractor (it would clamp directly to the bar, the fabric cover would be removed or modified to allow access to the bar). For stability it would have a brace to one of the hardtop bolt holes in the tub. The spare would rest on the floor and bolt to the mount; being on the floor would keep the weight off the mount so the job of the mount is mostly to hold the spare in place.

I don't have a 2dr here so I can't do any dimensions, but I think it could be built more-or-less work as drawn and should be plenty sturdy enough to contain a heavy spare.

To get a head start on fabrication, if I were doing the project I'd probably begin with a MORryde HD spare carrier; it would be pretty straightforward to build a frame as described above to mount it to. I didn't do the drawing above with the MORryde part in mind, but now that I'm thinking about the easiest way to fabricate something like this that part could be a decent starting point. I've got an extra MORryde carrier laying around somewhere here, I can pose it in place in my JKU and take a picture if that helps. You wouldn't use the tailgate reinforcement, hinges or CHMSL stalk from the photo below, just the spare carrier.

Got my MORryde decals a few days ago but had to wait for the rain to stop, and T-shirt was a nice touch. If I like a product or site I dont mind advertising so thanks for the free swag,

I hope MORryde doesnt mind the Pirate Salute.

On the cooler.

Left side and right side, if MORryde wants me to drop the cans and take better pictures I can do that.

Ill still have my neighbor look at the pictures, but I think im more comfortable with the straps. Ill order the MORryde carrier to see what he thinks and can come up with following your pictures and can up with. But IM fine with the straps. Thanks for the idea, and that is a great solution, but i'm good with straps..

Here are a few shots of a MORryde spare carrier clamped in roughly the correct location to mount an inside spare (in my JKU). I've clamped it to my ammo can holder (which isn't strong enough to contain a heavy spare), but the center of the spare carrier bolt pattern is about 16.5" above the floor, so about right for a 33" spare. It's also several inches further inboard than you could mount it due to the width of the ammo can tray, but overall I think these photos plus the drawing I did yesterday should give you a rough an idea of what's necessary to mount it.

But if you are happy with the straps, you should keep using them.

I often describe MORryde to people as a "midwest family values company", so the juxtaposition of their sticker with the Pirate Salute probably wouldn't be their first choice :).

Scherb, I cant sleep right now so I was looking at your idea for an inside tire carrier. The MORryde HD carrier would be a good start but would need some up down adjustment for different size tires. Ive seen a lot of JKs or TJs with the rear tire delete, so I cant be the only one to want to carry the tire inside. So this could be a product.

Strapping to the floor like Ive shown would work, or actually making a floor mount.

I like it on the side like I have it now..

I'm sure others would be interested in a mount like you've drawn up it, like I noted it would need to adjust up and down.for different size tires.

I'll order a roll bar clamp and the carrier, and with your pictures my neighbor should be able to come up with something solid. With a 2 door Ild bolt it into the rear seat mounts like I have it strapped in now, I dont think the far rear tie down has a big enough bolt.

The carrier like you drew up might put the tire farther into the cabin then just strapping it in, Ill see what my neighbor can come up with. If I need to carry a second spare Ill just strap it into the passenger side.

So reading your last post here had me remember that one of the club members down here with a 2 door just had a buddy design a tire carrier inside his Jeep. I do not have any pics with the spare tire on but this is what he designed. It is elevated so not sure if that makes any issues or not for you but this is how he wanted to carry his spare. Maybe this may help or maybe not for you.

I doubt there would be enough demand for an inside spare mount like this to make it a product, but if I hear enough interest in the idea maybe I'll make a proof-of-concept prototype.
