Foxwing-style awning for $180+ship?

So I don't know what I am allowed to post, but Sunday Campers is the manufacturer for at least one RTT brand that is well known in North America...

Has the duty cost on these items been sorted out yet?

RTT's being imported into Canada are subject to a 18% duty when they arrive, which I know these are not going to Canada and that RTT's & awnings are not the same thing, but I don't want anyone missing this before pulling the trigger and have the price jump on them significantly.

Where is the 18% duty calculation coming from? I'm interested as I am also working on importing some camping items from overseas, and my sources are showing a lot less duty being owed. Perhaps i have typed in something wrong? Not sure, but it would be nice to see where your getting your number from.

Thanks

Steve

Hey Steve, this is what I found out for Canada, where you live may be different.

In my case I had to look up the "HS" number that matched the items being brought in and that told me the duty % that would be charged at the boarder.

Sine I am sure there is a duty charge for bringing items from China to the U.S. you might want to call the boarder agency and tell them what you plan to bring in and they can be helpful

Adventurer, eh?
When I ordered my single awning, which came in 2 boxes, the awning itself, and the sides/floor in another, I think it only cost me C$30-something when I picked it up.

My advice as an importer from China to Canada and USA: Hire a broker! It's their job to figure out the HS numbers and other fees. From my experience, the first two shipments can be a huge learning curve and cost you more than you expect! For example: first time importers are more likely to be flagged for a customs inspection. That means customs take your shipment, rip it apart and inspect every piece. Any damage or loss resulting from this is up to you. Those inspections also cost up to $3000 a pop!
My advice, get a broker...

Directly through email actually. I dealt with Mandy Cao. Honestly, I was afraid to go through sites like Alibaba and made-in-china.

Alibaba is like the Amazon of China... it does provide you with some buyer protection.

That said I have always emailed direct as well

Hey everyone, I posted this in the OP but putting it here just to cover bases.

UPDATE 2:
I'm still working with the import folks on getting the final price sent over. However, with keeping the window open we're hitting a moving target because the total amount keeps changing. I'll keep the list open until 9am EST on 4/27 for all those last minute folks that are still on the fence. That being said, I understand that everybody is on this list contingent upon shipping costs. Once the final shipping numbers come back there may be some folks that back out. If they do - I'll mark the spot as "OPEN" on the list and you can fill into their spot. Thank you guys for being patient.

Yes, I'm working through a broker now - they're slow on the follow up though. It may cost a bit more but I'd rather do it that way than have to find a couple thousand dollar bill later and have people freak out.

I just got pricing from them as well but probably wont be part of the group buy as I am in the states and shipping will be a different situation.
Really thinking about pulling the trigger on their RTT and foxwing. By looking at their site, its almost easy to guess who they manufacture for but who knows if Im right.
