I'm gonna have to start slowing down. I can't break 14mpg in my 5.3s and stock tire sizees and 3.73, driving my usual 75-80mph. 21-2200 rpms

Ya you do! hah... It's really about acceleration and how you choose to take hills than anything else.

Also in Martinjmpr's boat. I used to want a 2500 but, for me, I dont really need it. And like Burb One said, you can pretty much mod your 1500 right up to it.

The MPG is the biggest thing for me though, and like I said, if you baby it you can get great mileage out of these 1500's, and I love testing just that. I have also gotten an honest 19.5 on many occasions and not on the computer. Pre Pop Top and without any racks, I once took a trip from Boulder, CO, to Estes Park, down to Loveland, and then back to boulder, filled up again calculated 22 mpg... Now it wasn't a long trip but quite some up and down. I also never broke 60mph and kept it at 35-40 up the hills and accelerated like a grandma off of stops.. but it just goes to show its possible.

On the freeway going 75 I now can get 16.5 mph with the top up there, granted the wind isnt crazy.. 55-60 mph up all hills and 80 mph down them.

So I found this one near by. How bad is the window regulator swap?

I would jump on that in a heartbeat, we have the identical setup in our cream puff 2003 2500 XL and love the 2nd row captain's chairs, with the 3rd row out when launching our boat I can climb through the back and into the front without worrying about smacking my man parts climbing over seatbacks. Ours came with the heavy-duty charging package that gave you the 140 amp alternator to support the rear DVD entertainment package that will be great for the kids. I added the Hypertech tuner with Airaid intake and can get 16-17 out of her on the highway, but towing the boat drops to 9-11, the small block just lacks the torque of the 8.1 but still tows smoothly. Before the Yukon we had a 1995 Silverado with the 6.5 diesel and manual trans, hated selling it but needed more seats when taking the boat out.

It all depends on what you plan on using it for. If it's just you and a friend get the Tahoe, if you plan on driving around 3+ people and gear get the Suburban. 1500 vs 2500: if you want a cool truck that everyone compliments get the 2500, if you want a practical truck get the 1500. If you are a careful and conservative driver get the 1500, if you are buying a truck to prove to the world that you can abuse your truck until the 8.25 and 4L60E blows up and everyone to compliment you on how cool your truck is get the 2500. I have a 1500 Sub, run 37s on it with lots of fender trimming. I run the same trails that all my friends in Rubicons run but with AC and comfortable seating for 7, tow 12,000lbs occasionally and get 16.5mpg daily driving with 3.73 gears. If you already do not have a 2500 chances are that you will not need one and the 1500 will be less expensive and easier to find.

Good luck and show us pictures of your new toy.

Stop spewing crap all over the forum bragging about your unsafe towing practices, "people" like yourself are part of why I always have the means to protect my family when you do something really stupid. And you are yet to post pictures or video of your truck actually going up obstacles worthy of a Rubicon....

Just grabbed this one 3 months ago. 2000 Yukon XL with the 6.0, 4.10, 90K miles. Getting about 12 mpg with 285/75R16, still have to do some performance maintenance, but I wouldn't expect much better, probably 13-14 mpg.

As for mpg on my other vehicles:
- 2004 Suburban 5.3 2wd 265/70R17 - 15-16 mpg in the highway, 13 in the city.
- 1997 1500 suburban 5.7 4wd 285/75R16 - 13-14 mpg combined.
- 2004 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 4wd 285/75R16 - 13 mpg (always has stuff in the bed, jaja)

Rayra - the best gas mileage I ever get is towing our PUP Trailer at 55mph. My Av will get 22-24 doing that. Completely astonishing to me given that I'll get 12-14 driving around town. The 4.88s, 35s, and slowing my roll a bit have helped quite a bit. Guess I'm getting older................................
