Selling Restored 97 LS Montero

Good afternoon.

Due to work requirements of more travel I have decided to part with my Montero and get back into a car. This sucks as I have put a lot of work into the Monty and have enjoyed it. I purchased the Montero almost a year ago in Atlanta. It had lots of work done to it due to timing belt failure. I will list everything done by the PO along all the things I have done. In fact yesterday I finished the last thing on my to do list and that was to replace the Valve Cover gaskets with Mitsu parts. The PO did replace these but with aftermarket brand and told me they still leaked some. As of today the Montero has 172k miles. last oil change was @ 170k. Its been on a 5k oil change cycle with mobil 1. Besides the few drips from the passenger valve cover there has been 0 oil usage at 172k!

As mentioned, I purchased this with 152k miles. The timing belt failed (was overdue) and caused damage to the valves resulting in a top end Rebuild. If you look at my main thread http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/163565-Gen-2-Feedback you can see the pics of the heads and engine during the rebuild. I have the folder with all the receipts for the work done from the PO.

Top End Rebuild/Other Items:

Heads Rebuilt with new Valves/seals
Full Gasket set
Timing Belt/Water Pump/Tensioners/Crank Bolt
Radiator-Metal One/Hoses
Piston Rings
New Brake Pads on all sides

Since I purchased it, I have done several things to further improve/add some things.

Toyo AT Open Country 265/75-15 95% tread still left
New Bilstein Shocks 4/1/17
Manual Hubs
Front Bumper ends from Gen 2.5 with Fog lights. Has working factory fog light switch on the dash
Pioneer CD Player
New Heater Core 5/1/17 This was not a fun job
Valve Cover Gaskets (Mitsu Brand) 5/20/17
Rear Cam Seals Both Sides
Gen 2.5 Headlights (New) New Harness for the newer style Bulbs
Rear Swaybar links
4WD actuator
Transmission fluid completely exchanged/all diffs/transfer case fluids with synthetic
Brake fluid flushed
Fuel Filter repalced
Recovered the steering wheel with leather

The interior is in awesome shape with no rips or stains. Has the original Mitsubish floor mats that are clean. I have the 3rd row seat, but they are out in the garage. Will post pics shortly of interior. The sunroof opens and does NOT leak. Ac is nice and cold and now the heater blows hot air and does not leak-Bonus. The CV joints are in good shape and not torn.

Really the only thing is clear coat fade on the roof in front of the sunroof. The overall paint is in good shape with few minor scratches. Comes with 2 keys, owners manual and 1 key-less remote

Asking $3900 OBO for the Monty. Think this is a fair price for the shape/work put into it. Clean Title.

Wow nice write up, and sweet truck! This is almost exactly what I'm looking for. Just one year too old. I know the 2.5 is not that much different than the 2, but I just love those blister fenders. Still tempting though. Can I ask you about the dent under the left side rear window, any paint breakage?

No paint breakage. Think somebody leaned/pushed on it. It was not hit. I just did not feel like removing interior parts to push out. I tried one of those suction cups from Harbor freight but it was too big.

I also forgot to post the pics of the headliner. I hate finding a nice car with a headliner that is trashed. If you would like, shoot me a PM and will give you my number if you have any more questions.

Admittedly it looks in great shape, essentially you have done maintenance to keep it in great condition, but you really should research pricing. KBB in excellent condition (top 3% of the vehicles for sale) is quite a bit lower than what you are asking. Unfortunately they are not Toyotas.

I appreciate the feedback. Looking at your profile I see several vehicle I'm sure you have spent time working on along with increasing their value. While I have priced the Montero higher, its negotiable and I am realistic in what will be ultimately the sale price. Last, maintaining the vehicle is one thing, rebuilding an engine/components is another that somebody will place value so they do not have to do it. Its also a classic this year :ylsmoke:

Looking on Craigslist, even at $3k not many options on SUV's running and in good shape without needing some kind of work/repair.

Personally I hope you get your asking price. GLWTS

BTW - I doubt any of the Monteros I currently own have increased in value since purchase. The '93 (3.5 years ownership) and the '05 (6 years ownership) are daily drivers.

Thanks for all the feedback and help on the forum. The Monty sold today to a Monty fan. His father had a Dalica and a 97 Montero. I feel it went to a good home where it will be well cared for.
