31" Tires

My Ranger 30 years ago came with 195/75-15's ... I dunno, 27" tires, on 5" or 5.5" wide rims. I wheeled it quite a bit then bought 235/75-15 AT TA's 29 or 30". They seemed massive and very capable, but I did notice a performance drop. When I put 285/75-16's on the FJ80 that replaced the Ranger, it seemed like a similar upgrade, with similar pro's and con's. Nowadays those tires seems small, but the trails haven't really changed. I'm actually thinking of replacing the OEM 265/70's on my new Taco with 245/75's. Same diameter but lighter weight. I guess it's all relative ...

I had 245/75/16 on my old Tacoma DC. They were ok, but don't expect any benefits regarding power or MPG. Probably has to do with the fact that most are LR E. They're not light. Also, ride was very stiff. Not by a huge margin, but definitely noticeable.
