if the thief's intention is to drive away, it would make the entry process a little less convenient. a smash'n'grab serves the owner right for leaving good stuff in site.
I understand that's blaming the victim, but it's also reality.
Where I live in London its also a good idea to eave the glove box open. I've had a window smashed twice by people who want to see if I've left anything valuable in the glove box. Needless to say this has never happened on my truck.

As an alternative, I have two of the The HEOSolution Van Security locks and they work well. As others others have stated, it is just a deterrent and does not stop the thieves from breaking the windows. http://www.heosolution.de/GB/index.php?tip=heosafe&subc=2
Their website depicts them in white but they can be ordered in black powdercoat finish.
