Dodge Sprinter AMBO with 150K miles - To buy or not to . . .

Hi,

So, I'm considering to buy me, again, an AMBO.
Its a Dodge Sprinter, 3.0L with 150K miles.
The problem is, there is no engine hours gauge!
I was told that it was used for transferring between hospitals
which does not involved many idle hours.

Your opinion is appreciated

What year is it?

pre DEF?

150K miles suggest maybe it didn't sit idling much and was used for longer trips depending on year. Most ambulances I see for sale are under 75K and often under 50K...

Sorry, I don't get any notifications about responds.

Its a 2007. 15K miles / year its quite an everage.
I was told it was used for transfers between hospitals.
Next week I'll see a mechanic and I'll ask him to download the computer.

As someone who has spent the last ten years driving ambulances.....

150 k miles is a pretty beat rig......

Ambulances are run hard plain and simple. Lots of them dont idle as much as they used to, and it is still a freighted truck thats being driven like, well, an ambulance.

Count on pretty much replacing all suspension and brake parts, most likely tires and perhaps more.

I know I took a chance but I paid $14K, which I believe is a good price.
All the way back home, 1880 miles, it drove very nice and smooth.
Not a drop of oil under the car.
80% set of tires.
Average of 18.6 MPG

I guess time will tell.

2007 can be tuned to remove swirl valves, egr and dpf, which are most of the idle problems. The ecu has an internal hours counter which can be read by the appropriate scan tool. Make sure the cooling system is up to snuff. And check the oil cooler gasket, turbo seals, both intake and exhaust. Exhaust side can cook the wiring harness, the o ring on the intake side can come loose during installation and get sucked into the turbo.
