Simple mapping needed

So I've read and searched on this forum and the internet for the info I'm looking for. But now asking all of you.

I want a basic map system, app, reader etc that I can use off line on an android tablet. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just the ability to read maps using GPS. Don't want features like adding comments or map sharing etc. Looking for an easy, preferably free map source and a "tool" to view on my tablet. Essentials like reading a paper map just electronically. I want to import the maps into my tablet as I need and remove them if don't need.

Is there anything like this or anyone using something similar.

Thanks in advance

Sal

Backcountry Pro is great on my android phones and tablet - can run off stored maps if you load them in advance - can get decent free topo maps or buy them if you prefer.

I'll second Avenza Maps. It's very simple to use and has a large map store of readily available maps for most locations (lots of topographic stuff from USGS, USFS, BLM etc, most free).
