Sleep platform on the bed rails?

I'm building the the back of the truck out for my family to use an emergency shelter for the when the weather is to bad or a location doesn't present itself for a tent. We have a 4 and 5 y/o plus my wife and I. Our plan is for my 4 y/o to lay across the rear window near the cab and my son to be on the side, creating a L shape with both of them in the air so we can utilize some of the space below for our own sleeping area. My idea was to use the bed rails to support those sections of the structure to help save weight and make it easier to build. I got thinking that the cap probably shifts and twists slightly and sandwiching in the cap between the bed rail and plywood my create stress cracks as the bed articulates. Any thoughts or experience?
