So in January I picked up a clean 2006 Cypress LX470 and one of the first mods i wanted to tackle was an HID retrofit. Every daily driver I've had since 2000 and my 80 have HID headlights. So I researched and it looked like i could use the factory projector bracket, swap in a clear lens install ballast and bulb and you're good. Better...yes! but no comparison to the Mini H1 Morimoto's in my 80 so I decided to hack up the factory projector and mount a Mini H1 to the factory bracket which a few on Ih8mud have done. It took about an hour, almost lost a finger and had aluminum dust and particles every where. So i decided to build a bracket that matched the factory attachment points to make this whole process simple. Working with a local CAD guy I thought about 3D printing a few in poly carbonate which we did but 3D printing turned out to be time consuming and I had concerns about the poly carbonate softening knowing I'd have to bake the headlights to seal them up. I was also attracting quite a bit of interest from MUD members nterested in doing the retrofit.
Fast forward 4 months and we have two aluminum brackets. One for the Morimoto Mini H1 and one for the Morimoto D2S 4.0....the 4.0 will require opening up the shroud to except the 3 inch projector.
Pricing is not set yet and I need to check the rules regarding selling product here....but I will post a link to the thread on Ih8mud where i will be a vendor once they go on sale.
The brackets use the factory attachment points and I sourced a coupler and ball snap (same one Mercedes uses) for the fixed rotational point. With the HID projector mounted to the bracket it will take less than ten minutes to install in the headlight housing once you've opened up your lights.
The output shot below is the Mini H1 low beam in my 80
