I am building a new box to go on my trailer and I want hard mounts for Jerry cans. fuel or water. I have seen some that are pricey, Front Runner https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/us/front-runner-vertical-jerry-can-holder.html or 4x Innovations http://www.4xinnovations.com/Universal-Jerry-Can-Mount--5-Gallon_p_42.html and some in the middle Smittybuild https://www.amazon.com/Smittybilt-D...rd_wg=y6wFs&psc=1&refRID=D7S15YHNT0BK8X7AXM0X or http://www.smittybiltdepot.com/Smit...798.aspx?t_c=3&t_s=188&t_pt=8401&t_pn=S/B2798 and then some that are very cheap looking or will not mount to the sides.

So what can you tell me about mounts and what have you used or recommend? Need something that will take a beating off pavement, this will be mounted on the side of the box and no floor from the frame or box.

Pricey but for side mounting and rugged, I don't know of a better option than roto packs

Thanks, but they are not in the running, i think they are great for ATV or motorcycles, but I would need 3-4 to carry 9-12 gals and Rotopax says not to use locks on the extension, so that means less fuel or no locking the cans.

The first smittybilt design has been around since con-ferr developed it in the 60's. I am an old timer been jeeping since then. It is very durable but only works with cans that have the lip on the bottom. You can crush the top handle on the can over time. I would weld a brace (when the can was new) to prevent this.

thanks, guessing a brace across the top to keep the can from moving

Awesome, thanks. That'll work perfect. Now I just have to decide if it's worth buying 4 of them, or bum some shop time and scraps and try to fab my own.

I am not sure how many you were thinking of when you said no locks on an extension for the rotopax. Here is a double with a lock, two doubles and 3 gal gas would yeild 12 gals.
