Pic Request.... Show me your fullsize quad cab going through the squeeze...

I have to say I like the premise of the ram boxes as I have always felt the space in front and behind the wheel wells was awkward and wasted space. That said if you want a canopy, you'll end up with something like this...

I've seen one in real life- a hard shell. Looks goofy as hell. Now if they could design a full sized canopy with "windoors" that lift up to reveal the ram boxes I could see myself owning another Chrysler product one day (something I swore I'd never do)

That's my truck. I've been through that.

Also, I love my Ramboxes and my rack and have zero complaints. I can walk completely around my RTT.

...at devil's kitchen/elephant hill...

I really dig the Tacoma, and it seems pretty perfect for trail use. The reality is, I can't think of too many places I've been or want to go that I couldnt fit a 1500 quad cab. Wife. 2 kids. Dog....appropriate comforts that keep all the afore mentioned happy and engaged on month long trips....the 1500 just makes more and more and more sense. Especially when I look at the comforts and capabilities of things like the F150 and the Ram. A quad cab short bed just has everything we need in terms of space, comfort, and capability. And Ram ecodiesel mileage with a chip? goodness...yes please.

The only place I can think of that I've been that makes me nervous is the squeeze at Devils Kitchen in Needles district. It's a favorite spot of ours, so as silly as it sounds, whatever I get has to be able to fit through it.

Does it fit? Is this a stupid question? Anyone with a late model 1500 truck come up to a place they havent been able to fit?

Thanks all!! cheers.

You can view my build for all the places a full size truck will fit.

I've been going down a list.

Gold Bar Rim, check, Golden spike, Check, Devils Pocket, Check, everything in Moab, I'm getting there but I've done a lot. The Rubicon, next year. Black Bear pass, it's already been done by 1 tons, I'll be there next year too.

I did Gold Bar Rim in a mostly stock Power Wagon. My only mods at the time were 35's and armor. That's it.

I started out with a 1500 but quickly ditched that for the Power Wagon. Becuase I didn't have to waste money modding my truck to start doing things. I did the Pocket there in that video stock. Hells Revenge, stock. Poison Spider, stock. There is a video of me on Hells Gate stock Power Wagon.

Fullsizes are becoming popular, but I'm going to be blunt, half ton is a waste of oppurtunity. You will spend all your money lifting and beefing up the weak IFS. Over on Ramforum I had a chuckle the other day becuase a guy dropped 5k on a 6 inch BDS lift to have the same fender height I have now on 37's. Someone here mentioned Ford having good aftermarket support. Well so does Ram. But let me tell you something, most of that aftermarket is setup for BRO trucks. ****ty lift kits, spacers, crap like that. It's worse in the half ton segment.

I didn't need a lift to run 35's and I didn't need one to run 37's either. My 37's are my OE wheels right now.

Front and Rear Lockers factory, 4.10 gears, disconnectable sway bar, 12k warn winch. If you're looking at Ram, go look at the Power Wagon and forget the rest. You can focus on actually doing stuff and not spending all your money, time and energy on mods.

I have a family, and we tow, so we needed a purpose built vehicle to do two things. My only regret was not buying the Power Wagon sooner and wasting a year and half with the 1500.

PS, I'm not really a Ram guy. I've always been a GM guy. I gave Ford and Ram a look when I was buying a truck. Chevy just felt like a rental car to me. I was digging the F150 Platnium, but then we test drove a Ram and I really just felt at home, like this is my truck. And that's how I ended up in the brand I used to think was crap. I love this truck now.

I'll leave you with some video of this years Moab event. After moab I came home and started on my custom rack and moved up to 37's.

I like what you've down with the rack, looks like a Leitner rack. So are you running 37's with no lift or leveling kit? Any rubbing at full lock or when stuffed?

That is not a Leitner rack. It's custom.

I have minor rub on the sway bar full lock. I now have Thuren front coils which level the truck. But lots of guys install 37's straight up. And I had them on before the level. It is not necessary. If I had the stock bumper I'd probably also have some rubbing at full lock on the inside fender liner up front. Those are the places most guys report rubbing.

35's usually won't rub. There are some differences with tires though, some guys report rub, some report no rub. Probably tread design playing a factor and weather the tire is true to its stated dimensions.

Yea I am aware, I was just stating that it's a lot like a Leitner, which I am big fan of.

I know I can run 37's with a level on my '17 F-250, but I am leaning towards a 4" for that extra clearance.

If I weren't such a diesel addict I'd seriously consider the PowerWagon, it's a shame IMHO that they don't offer it with the Cummins.

Shoot, if they ever get smart and offer the PW and JK with a diesel option they will smash the competition.
