Rtt and satellite radio

I'm trying to track down why my XM radio has started having "issues" with reception.

Has anybody had issues with reception after putting an rtt on their truck?

It didn't start as soon as I mounted my tent, and the tent is mounted behind the receiver, and doesn't cover it.

However the last few weeks I go from having great reception one minute and then piss poor five minutes down the road...for instance, 2 days of having horrid reception followed by 3 days of good reception

I'm just trying to see what may be the problem prior to ..whatever I have to do lol

No issue with mine.
You can see the receiver right below the BajaRack symbol on the fairing, with the tent right behind it.

The only time I loose reception for a few seconds is when there are a ton of semis in front of me on the freeway if the satellite is low in the sky and they are blocking it.
And you can see how mine is almost under the roofrack, and I still get excellent reception.

I had issues when I had a truck camper as the overhang completely covered the antenna on the top of my truck cab. My solution was to get a magnetic Sirius antenna puck and I put it at the aft center of the hood (by the cowling) and ran the wire inside. For my dodge there was a Sirius interface module behind my glove box that I just unplugged the oem antenna and plugged in the aftermarket one. Worked great.

Oddly enough, I've noticed with mine (RTT mounted on truck shell, just behind the antenna which is at rear of cab) that my reception is fine when traveling south, but spotty when traveling north. I'm not familiar with the radio specifics, but I'm guessing the satellites are to the south of me? So when I travel away from them, the RTT sits more between the antenna and satellite?

Son of a.... I did have more issues heading north through Oregon, Washington and BC than when I was heading south...

It's on a Chevy Colorado and the rtt is about 3-4" inches behind the antenna.

Well that makes me feel slightly less tin-foil hat about the whole thing... I though I was crazy

To be fair, my neurologist has indicated that things aren't right up in here... So it's very possible you are crazy and I'm just brain damaged enough to fall in with your crazy talk!

Yep, I had to move the receiver once I mounted the rtt. It was fine under the Gobi Stealth, but once I mounted the rtt I lost reception most of the time....but the antenna was under the rtt by about 1/2" at that point....
