Help modifying charger for CAT work light

I can't really tell much from that, except that it does use 3.7V batteries, and it appears to have a boost circuit for the USB port (so it will likely provide 5V on the USB). You can certainly try a 5V input, but it may end badly, and I wouldn't leave it alone anywhere that a small electrical fire would be a problem. You could take your ohm meter and see if the battery is directly connected to the center pin on the power connector, if it is, it is definitely a bad idea to use a 5V input. If it is not directly connected it may or may not be a bad idea.
