Commute in a Trooper?

Just wondering if any of you DD your Trooper and if so, how far is your commute? What kind of mileage are you seeing? NVH aside, would it even be a good idea?

We have a bone stock RWD '02 with XL-Rated AT tires, run the same tires on my truck, even with the same tires...it is a road couch compared to my Tacoma. While I use the Taco more... have commuted in the "Pooper" from time to time. Commute is 60 miles round trip, average 20 mpg with the cruise set at 65mph. No stop and go traffic, as I can schedule my day to miss the arsejackery.

Have read the 4WD's get roughly 15 mpg.

Have a 94 SE with 79k miles that is my DD. 15 mpg avg in daily rush hour traffic. My commute is 30 miles round trip. On the highway, I avg 18-20 mpg.

Bummer... I was hoping for at least 20 mpg with 4WD. I love the simplicity and quality of old Japanese SUVs. But with an 80 mile round trip its probably not gonna happen

My 95 was rated at 17 mpg highway, brand new. I have gotten as high as 20 going through the Rockies, but usually less.

I switch between my 88 Trooper and my Ford Festiva, but more in the Festiva since I've got a 64 mile round trip commute to the office when I'm not out of town for work.

I commute in my 91 with 255/85/r16s most days. It's got the crappy 2.8 V6 and a manual trans, and gets about 15 mpg mixed city/hwy. I have some new R&P gears to put in, but I don't know if they'll make much of a difference...

Comfort has been OK. I am running OME springs and shocks (they're great). I had some cheap shocks and stock springs before, and it sucked.

I start feeling cramped after about 2-3 hours in it and want to get out and stretch, but it's fairly comfortable for something designed in the 80's!

Disclaimer: I have always driven old/modified vehicles, and usually put ~10k miles/year on motorcycles, so my expectations for comfort may be lower than the average person :xxrotflma
