In fact. RHD vehicles are currently barred from entry to Nica and CR. Of course like everything in central america, the laws are somewhat "fluid," but I would not plan a PAN-AM highway trip around a RHD drive vehicles. Too many horror stories of people getting turned around or having to ship.

You can get vehicles plated in some states without them being federalized. All it means is that the state police won't take your vehicle, the federal people will. And the feds are the ones that would take it anyway. So you are NOT safe. Common misconception to think that registration=legal. Florida has tons of cars registered that don't meet the 25 year requirement, just like this one. It's only steps away from the crusher. Not worth the $40k gamble in my mind.
