I am refurbishing and upgrading a 1983 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser that my daughter was using for the last 7 years to run around Wyoming. I am going to replace the stock engine with a 5.3L Vortec with custom cam and timing chain, replace the 4 speed trans with a 5 speed, new clutch and flywheel, new springs, lifters, new body mounts, new shock, steering stabilizer, rebuild the steering knuckles, new bumpers, new interior, rack, maybe air lockers, refinish the body…This will be a long project so I will post as I go. Always open to suggestions and ideas. A few before photos below:

I can relate....my son and I rebuilt our 87 10 years ago with a lot of the same toys, except the V8. (Build thread on IH8MUD). We've used the heck out of it and it's been worth every dime in it, but the only thing I'd ask is what is your intended use going to be? A stock or slightly modified 60 is a monster and can go a lot of places, so if it doesn't get used to its fullest, some of those add-ones may not return on your investment. Good luck!

Luis, that is going to be an awesome 60! I'd rather put the $25,000 into a 60 than a stock 200! Keep us posted on your progress!

Well, if you have a heated garage, I'm thinking you'll have the next 5 months or so to get at it!

Getting things torn down. Shawn owner of S&S Performance Motors in Waterford, MI is doing the work for me. I am sourcing most of the parts myself. Great guy. We have found several problems with the frame. Although generally in very good shape a couple of pieces as the rear need to be replaced. I found some replacement parts via Spector Off-Road. Photos of status below. Getting frame ready for sand blasting and powder coating.
