2001 Montero XLS - Need an Engine - Chicago Area

Hello - my Monty is in need of an engine. Can anyone recommend a good repair shop in the greater Chicago area? I'm considering a rebuild, remanufactored, 1ZUFE swap or MIVEC block build.

Appreciate any insight for a good mechanic to help with this project.

Any non stock swap will require deep pockets when taken to a mechanic. Do you have deep pockets?

Oh I certainly wouldn't give advise on finances. You must be set dropping $10K (min) on a shop retrofitted 1Uzfe swap into a vehicle when complete will net you $6K max. Passion! There is no headroom (yet) in Monteros. Its not like dropping a $10K swap into an early 80 series or 60 series that could be resold for $20K to $30K. Toyota fan boys we are not.

Double and triple check a mechanic doing a cross manufacturer swap! I think the guy in the southeast doing the Chevy v8 into 80 series is north of $20k for the swap, but that is all sorted out! I think the biggest fear is finding someone down the road to work on a swapped motor truck.... good luck on the search!
