    Default Canter model decoding for Australian models

    Hi,
    Can anyone direct me to information to decode Australian Mitsubishi Canter model numbers?
    Most of the info I can find relates to overseas models or doesn't include the letters/numbers in some of the trucks I am looking at.

    Cheers
    Dave

    Thanks for the replies.
    I'd like to be able to work out engine types and chassis lengths etc as I browse the net without having to bother others all the time.
    This is the best explanation i have found so far but appears to be different to whats available in Australia.

    https://carused.jp/mitsubishi_canter/spec

    eg: This one i was looking at doesn't fit FG639W6

    Hi Dave,

    I assume your 92 model is 2wd?, from what I know there has not been a lot of significant change in chassis lengths over the years, and the 2wd chassis are generally longer than the 4wd variants.

    As an example, the current model 4wd https://cdn.fuso.com.au/Docs/SpecShe...wide%20cab.pdf has 1808mm rear cab to axle and the 2wd https://cdn.fuso.com.au/Docs/SpecShe...rew%20Cabs.pdf has 2271mm for the same spec. and these figures are pretty close to your quoted estimated figures.

    Mr Nakajima may be of some help .....
    https://aidjapan.wordpress.com/2010/...ubishi-canter/

    I have an FG649E

    FG 4wd
    the 9 in 649 is 4D34 engine
    the E is 6m chassis (which in other places has been called "medium wheelbase" as opposed to "short" or "long")

    I 64 seems to be some model progression.

    I was looking for something else and tripped over the following, from the front of my (around 2005) manual

    so my FG649E is (F) forward control, (G)diesel, 4wd, (6)wide cab, (4) gvm 6000-6900kg, (9) 4D34-T, (E) 2780mm wheelbase

    char 1 Vehicle Type
    F = forward control

    char 2 Basic loading capacity, drive system, fuel
    E = diesel engine, payload 2000 to 3500 kg, 4x2
    G = diesel engine, payload 2000 to 3000 kg, 4x4

    char 3 Cab style
    5 = standard cab (1695mm)
    6 = wide cab (1995mm)

    char 4 vehicle variations suspension
    3 = rigid axle light duty vehicle (payload 1500 to 3000 kg)
    4 = rigid axle light duty vehicle (gvm 6000 to 6900 kg)
    5 = rigid axle light duty vehicle (gvm 7000 kg or more)

    char 5 engine
    4 = 4M42T
    9 = 4D34-T

    char 6 wheelbase
    FE
    C = 2750mm
    E = 3350mm
    F = 3760mm

    FG
    C = 2530mm
    E = 2780mm
