Tire Bed Mount Question

OIIIIO

Observer
I am having a bed rack fab'd up to mount my RTT on my ZR2. The truck has rear-view camera in the tailgate and I want to avoid obscuring the view with a swing out. So I was thinking of incorporating a tire mount into my bed rack design.

Thoughts on this?

Where would you place the tire? I figure there are three options:

1. Front, tire facing the rear.
2. Front, mounted inline with bedside.
3. Rear, near tailgate inline with bedside.

Which do you think would be more practical?

Anyone done this? Anything to avoid or make note of in this type of setup?

Holy cow! How often do you lose a tire?

Front inline. A simple fullsize ratchet strap will hold it down. Beware small straps, use the real deal., cut off the excess strap.

If I remember correctly, back in the mid to late 80s Nissan Hardbody pickups that had the 31” tire option had a spare tire mounted on the forward panel, left side of the pickup bed. Roughly similar to what Cletus26 is showing above. If I was to get a Tacoma, I would try to fab up a spare tire mount like this. I would mount it on the driver's side so as not to obscure rearward vision any more than necessary. I think this is the best option since it still allows easy access to the tailgate and seems to be fairly accessible when needed.
