Hello to all,

After covering about 5,000 kms of mountainous terrain and seaside view of the Philippines in a cramped SUV, I have finally decided to convert our truck 4x4 KIA 1.5 tonner forward-double cab pick up truck into a expedition/camper/all-around vehicle to accommodate all our stuff for camping, swimming and biking.

Your DIYS and Adventures have inspired me with the build particularly the REBELZILLA though not as sophisticated.

PIX - BEFORE AS A PICK UP HAULER FOR THE SHOP:

PIX DURING THE 2 MONTHS BUILD:

We had to lengthen the chassis rail to accommodate the aluminum van, move back the rear differential and extend the rear propeller.
We also lifted the front cab by 3" and fender trimmed the front wheel arches to accommodate bigger wheels.

Dimension of the box is

Length - 8 ft
Width - 5.5 ft
Height - 5.5 Ft

All interior dimensions. Unfortunately, I cant stand straight inside the box.

Any suggestions what I can do with the interior?

Just commissioned for a roll cage / roof rack project for the front cabin. Planning to install 4 circular fog lights in front in front of the bonnet. Will try to do a rendering.

I was dying to do something just like this but with a canvas covering instead of the box when I lived in Ecuador. Keep up the good work!

After a few hectic weeks, my multi-purpose roll cage construction started. We moved the box back and centered it on the rear axle giving us about 5 inches of space between the cab and the box. This would probably require to relocate the gas filler cap underneath the rear cage (passenger side) where there is unusable space.

There is still a lot of work to do but I think ill be done with the fitting this Friday. I'm planning to place a storage rack on top as high as the box roof line and a side ladder between the cab and box. Any suggestions?

Also should I place windows at the back doors like an ambulance? Also, I need to replace the lock mechanism, any suggestions?

Thanks guys

nice work. looks good!

i cant suggest any lock mechanisms, but id wait to add windows until you finalize the build out inside the box. we had all kinds of things change to the design inside our van once we actually started living in it.

Anyone have more info on these Kia K2700's? I stumbled upon them while looking at Hiace style dual cab forward controls.

It seems you can pick these Kia's up pretty inexpensive from Korea. The 2005 is the start of the latest generation and just about eligible for import into Canada.

We slowed down since we were yet to finalize the purpose of the project in order to carefully plan and minimize costs. Now, thankfully, we have seen the need of transporting our gear and ourselves for our motorcycle enduro races and courses in the uplands of eastern Philippines.

So the initial plan for have the rear box as a people camper will be converted to a loading bay of 3 dirt bikes and workshop (tools) while hopefully we can provide a pop up roof to rest in. I have already removed the roof A/C.

Any suggestions on how to build the pop up tent? Is it still advisable to install an inverter, solar and batteries?

Thank you in advance.

Things done already are the following:

Installed 9500 winch in front
Placed upper arm suspension block to lift the front
33" tires and steel rims
