Greetings, I have a gen 2 Montero, 3.5 SR. What brand/viscosity oil works best? I tried Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic 5W30 and it sheared down to 20 weight. Thanks in advance!

On the GEN III I use Mobil 1 full synthetic (since it was 0 miles) and I change it once a year or every 15k miles.
On 1990 LWB GEN I, I use Castrol 10w40 and change it every 7k miles
On the 1988 SWB GEN I, I use Castrol 20w50 and change it every 7k miles.

I always use the Mitsubishi oil filter.

Been using Valvoline synthetic Max Life 10w30 for awhile now. Looking to try out Rotella T6 maybe down the road.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
Been using Rotella 5w40 T6 in my Gen 2 for 5ish years, runs quiet and oil changes are clean (i still change every 3k), when I have old high milage leaky/smokey beater Mitsus i run Rotella 15w40 which is also what I run in 4D56's. I run Valvoline full synthetic 10w30 in my Gen 3 only because my local mitsu dealer doesn't stock Mitsu synthetic 10w30, i run Mitsu 0w20 in my Mirage.

Plus one for the Rotella 15w40 in my 1998 with 155k miles, Southern CA. I may try the 5w30 Rotella next go around and see if it might quiet my valvetrain some. Perhaps the lower viscosity will help me track down the small leak I'm getting from somewhere below the valve covers on passenger side... I burn a bit likely due to valve stem seals giving out but the dipstick and drained oil always look good.

Anybody running 15w40 delo or rotella in a 6G75 3.8L and/or Gen 3.5 Montero (03-06)?
I know plenty use 5w40, but it is different - it's a synthetic and more expensive.

I'm at 200k mi on a recently acquired 05 Monty. Lots of oil consumption, been topping off with 5w30 but using 15w40 delo on other vehicles so would be convenient to use same.

I ran Rotella T6 15W40 for several years in my '05 until the T6 5W40 became more commonly available in my area. It gets cold here, and 5W40 suits the climate better.
