To remove pulley you just have to keep it still while removing the crank bolt in the middle. Make a simply bar tool with studs to go in those two hole to hold it still. With bolt out pulley should slip off, then the crank gear can come off separately (once timing belt is loose or off, the crank gear should slip off crank)

Great find, especially with lower miles. I know the dilemma with free time: kids vs Montero... Take your time and enjoy the process. Welcome!

Totally agree with Slim here. I've got 4 as well, oldest being 7...the kids always come first. Thankfully mine love to both work on the Montero and adventure in it. It's a family fixture.

I got the crankshaft bolt out, but the pulley doesn't want to budge.

See if you can rent a puller from autozone, its not a press fit so it should come off relatively easy. A few ********** from a hammer should work but you can risk bending/denting. I know my pulley came right off after removing bolt, but my crank gear underneath was frozen and required an air chisel to remove (then a replacement gear).
