VW Baja Bug Mods & Improvements

This is my 1965 Baja Bug, runs, drives, but looks a little plain. I need ideas for mods, I've already talked to the guys at CVT and am working out the details for putting a tent on top, working on brainstorming a rack for the back to hold gas, water, and the spare tire. I need ideas for mods, for exterior, interior, and functionality etc... thanks.
Should probably mention that this is my expedition vehicle, and the extent of an expedition for me is a lake trip, or extended camping trip, on paved roads for the majority of the time. Thanks. (Found the right place to put this)

I used to have a Baja that had jerry can holders mounted on quarter panels behind the doors.I took out the backseat and made a platform to use storage boxes(plastic). I welded in a horizontal bar on the roll cage behind the front seats to keep the stuff in the back stable (eye bolts and tie downs). Spare was always on the roof rack but that won´t work for you. I´ve seen some cool spare mounts integrated into the rear motor cage. Check here for some info.

Good luck!

Bajas are great. I´ve driven them all over the US southwest, Baja, Mainland Mex and Guatemala.:smiley_drive:

I've been hunting for a Baja Bug for a while. I find the odd good one on Craigslist, but I've yet to be able to snag one. I did however get a co-op deal going on a mid ‘60s Manx dune buggy with less than 2,000 miles on it. I'm supposed to pick it up on Tuesday. I'm kind of excited to play with it, and will watch your progress here too.

I would focus on minimalism. Unless you're planning on spending money beefing up the drivetrain, and the transaxle specifically, adding weight to a Bug is not going help its reliability.

Two really fine cars have hit the market this week (I constantly check for Bajas and rails):

The white Bug is on Samba Offroad Classifieds: Ad 2153471 $6500
Really a nice price given the components and condition and a solid play car.

The orange one is on Facebook: Strictly Baja Bug Classifieds (March 4th listing) $10500
It a pretty slick build, with very current parts, and retains the standard rear seats (which is rare in a race/pre-runner car).

The "Limo" is mine (currently headed to paint for this scheme) and I'm fabbing up the roof rack and side bars this summer.
I'll do a thread on it later this year after all the mods for this season are complete.
