Let's See Custom Center Consoles

View attachment 439513View attachment 439514

I took a used Gamber Johnson police console and swapped out my factory center console with it. I took a piece of plastic trim to Home Depot and had them match the color with a small can of latex paint to match the interior. There is a long list of available faceplates from several console companies that can fit just about any radio you wish, or you can even use a "blank" to cut out holes as you need. I used some sheet metal to fab up the small filler plate that bridges the gap between the cupholder and the console itself.

Dang, that's some radio gear!

I put together a quick custom console with some extra plywood I had lying around for my Silverado. Not sure if its what you're looking for, but might give some ideas!

Not sure how helpful this might be but I'm working on my own console, and so far this is the layout (not including switch panel which will be somewhere else).IMG_1482.JPG

This is my 1989 center console that was recently re-built. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Cheers

I like your style. I recently renovated my console as well but don’t think I could be much help unless the OP wants to add radar to his rig. My overwater rig, I mean boat.

Dont forget to plan for where your handsets or speakers might go
Yeah I've been thinking about that as well... And also where to mount the ram mounts for phone and tablet. I'm thinking the handsets might have to go either on the side, or attach to the dash below the radio (but that would cover up climate controls). Speakers I think will be incognito under the dash but still should be loud enough.

You should still post a close-up of the cluster. it might give the OP and others some ideas still. After all, there are probably some FEMA ICS peeps on here and you never know what can be useful!

Thinking of adding storage below the center seat on my 2013 Ram Club Cab. There's a huge dead space between the floor and cushion. I'll probably make a sheet metal box for that space and put a stock looking cushion on the top. The stock arm rest is good, so I'll remount that. Hope to come up with a secure 'out of mind, out of sight' storage.

My Sub's got 6, the front pair are right in front of my radio console.
Speaking of cupholders, some GMT800s and 400s have a pull out / pop out cupholder in the bottom right corner of the dashboard arrangement. Member stryder did a nice job of putting his comm speaker in that spot, it was a real good fit.

Audio console built off the stock 2001 SUburban console.

The sides hold two 8" Kicker "Free Air" subs, the top of the console holds two subwoofer control knobs and three exterior lighting switches. Below that I have the stock "cubby" door with a 160GB ipod behind. On the back of the console I have a bank of USB charging ports and also HDMI in and an AUX in. I also rewired the internal and external 12v sockets with heavier wire and sockets.

Here is a custom console in a 96 Ford Bronco PreRunner, very nice work. Watch the whole video.
