Just came across this on CL.....

This just might be the rig of your dreams, I know it was mine. This is a rare 1982 Mercedes 300 GD
5 cylinder diesel 4 wheel drive go anywhere campervan/RV, low miles/kilometers. Originally used as an ambulance in Belgium (hence the low miles) and converted to a camper. It has a very compact toilet and shower; sink & stove top; fridge and a diesel heater system. I bought it to go to Alaska, but had some trouble along the way. All of those troubles have been fixed (new clutch and clutch master cylinder; new starter; new diesel injectors all around; new manifold and more), but while they were getting fixed in Belgrade, MT, I had my summer in Alaska. Now I am willing to sell it for considerably less than I have into it (my wife's health rules out future big trips). This is a rig for exploring the back roads; it is not for you if you want to go fast on the freeways. Don't get it if you don't want people wanting to take pictures of it or trying to buy it from you.

This classic rig is in Gresham, OR . It yearns to take you on the back roads and byways in relative comfort and style. Call Mark for more information Five 09-49three- 152nine (Washington). Call or email for a test drive

I wonder how bad shape it's in if it failed on his one trip and he had to replace a ton of stuff.

Looks very familiar. I believe it was listed somewhere on here a while back - probably when the current owner bought it. I'd ask for recent photos, I'm fairly certain some (most, all?) of the photos in the ad were from when it was originally listed.

It was listed for over a year at http://www.grautogallery.com/ . The picture shown was actually taken at GR Auto Gallery. Was $50K. Also on here several times along with a few times on eBay. When it gets down to $30K, I'll buy it. Think that it sold from GR for $45 or $40K. If I recall correctly, this was not "converted from an ambulance" it was built as a camper from new. Company used "ambulance" chassis as a base because it has a longer wheelbase than the standard "G". I want it even if it is slow.
