Drooling here. Though I've heard enough horror stories about getting early 80s imported diesels tagged in CA. So I'll have to wait until I escape communism.

I might have to actually check that out seeing as it's so close.

please do; bring a camera for our benefit as well as yours. I'm sure if it's in great shape it'd be a good buy for someone.

Good luck!

Will do, if I indeed get the chance to take the small trip they'll be plenty of pics when I return....with or without it. :D

I sent email asking for the VIN number, so far no reply.

Diesels used to be exempt from EPA certification, not sure if they still were in 2006, so an EPA certificate may not be available, or it may just say exempt. You want copies at the NHTSA certification showing that all the safety features were brought up to standard.

Id also ask for a picture of the VIN label. When we brought a diesel Mercedes into the USA in 84 the VIN label had on it the name of the importer, me, it stated it conformed to all federal safety regulations, and it had the VIN number stamped on it.

The obvious issue is that many vehicles are brought into the USA, registered legally on the State level, but not certified or declared at the Federal level. As it's the Fed who deal with importation it's important that all the the correct Federal paperwork has been completed and stamped.
