If you're looking for a vintage truck for overland travel, but with the reliability of a modern powertrain look no further. My '83 Silverado just needs a bed rack and an RTT, or a Phoenix or 4 Wheel Camper in the bed and you're good to go.
Truck is in Rockwall TX, a suburb 30 miles East of Dallas.
What's been done:
5.3L/4L60e from a 2001 Yukon, less than 150K.
New front and rear main seals, new water pump, new oil pump, new plugs were all done before the engine went in.
Truck was originally 2wd. Converted by using a 4X4 LWB frame that was shortened to a SWB frame.
Frame was power washed and painted semi-gloss black before the body went on.
New body mounts
4" Pro Comp Lift
35" Tires
Painted in 2015 with 2002 Trans Am Navy Blue Effect.
All new lights after paint. Headlights, turn signals, brake lights.
New Chrome body trim, wheel trim, grill, grill trim, head light buckets, etc.
Door handles and front bumper are original to the truck. I cleaned them up. Rear bumper is from a K5 blazer from the same time period.
Bed was sprayed with bed liner while at paint shop.
8 lug axles from a suburban, rear is a semi-floater. Front was completely rebuilt before being installed. 4.11 Gears.
Truck has an OBD2 port under the dash, so you can tune, and diagnose just like a late model truck.
Dash pad cover over original dash because it was starting to develop cracks.
Original bench seat was recovered with a period correct velour.
New Carpet kit was installed.
Headliner was recovered.
All new rubbers: Windshield, back glass, door window channels, door weather stripping, even the quarter windows were completely rebuilt.
Things it still Needs
A/C. I have the compressor
Bolt extracted in front diff driveshaft yoke
2 Wheel studs need to be replaced. One is cross-threaded, the other I can't get the lug nut to go on.
Side mirrors. I couldn't decide between the elephant ears, or the smaller ones from the 70's, so I never installed any
Air filter. Right now it just has the MAF on the intake tube.
Sun visors recovered and reinstalled. I have them
Radio and speakers
Power Windows work, but they are slow like most trucks of this age.
Has a small oil leak
Gas gauge fixed.
This truck is fun to drive around. It is not perfect. Truck is cross-posted on the Dallas Craigslist.
I'm asking $18,900 OBO. I prefer local pick up. Not opposed to shipping with buyer paying all shipping.
