LONG VERSION:
I bought this RV about 3 years ago out of Texas because I wanted a project, and I really like these rigs. I did a lot of research before buying and picked one of the better examples I could find, then I spent the time and money to build into a really nice little rig.
After buying it, I drove it back to Flagstaff, AZ. and began working on it off and on while using it for trips around the state. After getting to know it (and it's issues) I decided to tear it down and start from scratch. The entire interior was gutted down to the fiberglass shell, the windows were removed, the electrical system was stripped, and the plumbing was stripped because it had some shorts, leaks, and general deterioration from the particle board it was originally built with.
First, I sealed the fiberglass and found all the issues it had. Then I re-installed all the windows with construction grade polyurethane. I rebuilt the walls with foam insulation and 1/4 inch plywood. I re-enforced the floor with a solid sheet of 3/4 inch plywood. From there, I used reclaimed red oak from a Kansas mill to build a completely new set of cabinets. The cabinets were custom built to fit the rig and add a lot of extra storage. They are stained and polyurethaned a natural color that brings out the grain of the wood. The propane stove was updated with a bigger more efficient model, and I new faucet with pull out head was installed as a well. The water pump was plumbed and wired into a hidden switch, and new counter tops were installed on the table and kitchen counters.
A new 120 volt/propane fridge was installed and insulated enough to make ice in Arizona. A new Progressive Dynamics power converter was installed and the entire rig was re-wired. I added many outlets including one outside the side door. All lights were switched over to LEDs inside, and a deep cell marine battery is installed with space to add a second. I kept the bathroom and plumbed it in even though I've only ever used it for storage. The cushions were completely reupholstered and the cab over sleeping area got brand new carpet on the floor.
It has two 20lb. horizontal propane tanks that have current certifications to be filled. I upgraded the vent to a fantastic fan with temp. control. It has a JVC head unit with AUX port installed in the RV section, wired into the 12 volt power supply and to 6x9 speakers installed in the cabinets.
The front has a permanently on screen connected to a rear view camera to assist with lane changes/parking/backing up.
Outside it has a set of the largest Yakima bars they make designed to carry a box/bike rack/etc.
Rigs like this are never done, and this one is no exception. Below is a list of every single thing I can think of that needs done, and some that could be done depending on your tastes:
-I've removed the vinyl from the front windows planning on fiberglassing them in completely to improve cab insulation since I think they're pointless. It could be replaced or the project could be finished depending on your taste.
-Trim work needs finished in a few areas
-Stainless steel backsplash needs installed behind sink
-Ceiling needs painted
-Walls need a coat of pain
-Some stain and poly needs done
-Curtain rods need installed
-Engine could use a tune up
-Oil pan gasket needs replaced
-More lighting needs added
-Curtain between cab and house needs installed
-Front dash needs finished and the HVAC controls need reinstalled
-Exterior needs a new gel-coat/paint/something
This thing starts/runs/drives/stops but is 32 years old. It's better build than most anything you will find and everything I've done to it, I've done planning on it lasting forever. The whole thing is simple enough that it'll run so long as someone maintains it, and even though this particular model is pretty rare at this point, toyota truck parts are common and cheap enough that everything is super easy to maintain.
I know it's not perfect, but the price is what I'm willing to sell it at. I'm ready for a new project, but I don't have to sell it either. If you have any questions about the rig that I didn't answer, I'll be completely honest so please don't waste my time because the price is firm.
