I picked up this 1985 Sub and am running a 4" Pro Comp lift with 33" General Grappler tires on 15" Pro Comp wheels. Stock 5.7L small block with 3.73 gearing. I'm using Big Red to tow my 1994 Jayco Pop-Up but she just doesn't have the power to get up the steep grades where we like to go camp. looking at upgrading to 4.10's but i'm afraid i'm gong to have to do an engine swap at some point. never done anything like that before. any tips or pointers appreciated!

You are not going to notice 4:10 over 3:73. With an 85 I would make sure it's running bin tip top shape. your set up should do just fine. I used basically the same set up for 2 years towing a 27 foot pull behind.

You may think of 4.56 gears if that's where you want to go. But I would check motor and tranny first. If you live in smog area is all of that working correctly are the cats plugged is the timing off a little or the distributor worn.
