1988 Land Rover 110, $33,000, located in Massachusetts.

The Land Rover Defender (this one predates the name change by two years) shouldn't need an introduction, and this truck is a great example that's ready to be taken on some overlanding adventures this spring. A former recovery vehicle in Italy, it stayed there until being imported 7 years ago. It has since been stored in a garage, and is now ready to see some trails and get dirty. It currently has just north of 151,000 km / 94,000 miles. The turbo diesel engine (19J) is in good working order and recently serviced. The truck has a 5-speed manual, with full-time four-wheel drive with high and low range. Recent work has been done on the suspension to make it a great driver, and is ready to be customized to your liking! Tons more photos and startup videos available upon request.

Details:
  • Left-hand drive
  • 151,000 km/94,000 miles
  • 4-cylinder 2.5L, 19J Diesel Turbo engine
  • 5-speed manual LT77 transmission,
  • LT230 transfer case with full-time 4wd, high/low gearing
  • 10-passenger seating, in theory, anyway
    • 3x in front, 60/40 split bench in middle, jump seats in back
    • Tweed cloth
  • Roof rack with spare tire
  • Brush guard
  • Work and offroad lights
Recent work (< 50 miles):
  • All fluids flushed and changed (oil, radiator, transmission, diff, transfer case)
  • Replaced timing belt
  • New radiator and water pump
  • New swivel balls, pitman arms, tie rods, bushings
  • New AGM battery
  • Replacement front doors (not installed) in body color
The good:
  • Chassis, outriggers, and crossmembers are in excellent condition
  • Body is in overall great condition
  • Drives well, runs well, engine starts strong in the winter, even in freezing temperatures
  • Seat cloth in very good condition
  • Heat works well, for a Defender :)
  • Nice, sturdy, roof rack and brush guard
The so-so:
  • A few of the seats have tears in the back
  • Some small spots of galvanic corrosion in typical Defender areas
  • Front floorboards have been replaced
  • Small dent in passenger side rear
  • Evidence of small front-end ding (radiator surround is slightly bent)
  • Liberal use by PO of carpet on the interior, now aging
  • Paint could use a refresh, especially under the roof rack. Most decals are vinyl, but there is some painted striping on passenger-side wing that has clear coat starting to fail.
  • Typical LR oil drips, but nothing bad (just lets you know it’s there)
The bad:
  • Bulkhead has been prophylactically repaired near the hinges with chequer plate, likely due to bubbling. Some evidence of bulkhead rust near hinges.
  • Some door bottoms are crusty, locks don’t really work. Door cards are in poor condition. Front doors are in worst shape; will include with replacements in good condition. Rear door is missing card, and has plexiglass replacement.
  • Typical LR water leaks. Seals are aged, and need to be replaced or shored up.
  • Bumper needs to be replaced
  • Has street tires, spare is unusable
