The exhaust brake is probably quite effective on a bare chassis. On a fully built out 917 it will require slow descents at high revs to hold you back. I am guessing it is the 12' wheelbase. Our MB 917 had a 12' wheelbase with an 18' habitat. Very stable with a great turning circle.
Thanks Joe. That’s why I like the standard transmissions. When I drove her from Halifax to here, she was a firetruck and weighed 7.1tons. The hold back was very good, just need to choose the correct gear.

They are both huge! ( winch cable capacity looks small too?)

Beautifully engineered...but yeah damn heavy. My original plan was to build her out under 7.49 metric tons. This alleviates a bunch of licence requirements in Africa and Europe.

Location BC, Canada - Price reduced to CA$90,000 (Approx. 62,000 US$) + taxes

We are selling our 1989 Mercedes Benz 917AF. I imported the Fire Service Truck in January 2021, via Halifax, and then drove her across Canada to BC. When purchased in Germany she was set up as an incident truck and therefore never had a water tank. The parabolic springs are in perfect condition. Before leaving Germany we converted her to super single tires. Hancock AM15+ 385/65R22.5.

Since coming to BC we have removed the Ziegler body, PTO driven 3 phase generator & winch. We have added air-ride seats, 400l fuel tank, custom battery/tool box, a Webasto engine heater, four point subframe. Stairs, 2 custom under frame rear storage lockers. We have also designed a 16' habitat with Off Grid Customs in Squamish, BC. The habitat can be built and mounted locally if required.

Our four point subframe was designed and built by Quade at Overland Adventure Truck in Washington state and is a pice of art! Quade is an amazing fabricator.

Truck weight as shown is 4,740kg.
The vehicle is registered as "Utility Truck" and is road legal. Annual inspection as of mid January.
