1991 Jeep Cherokee Build

Stormhorns

The Presence
Hello Portal!

Long time lurker, finally getting my first build started.

Came across my 'new to me' XJ on craigslist the other day.

Someone had cut the catalytic converter off, so the previous owner let it sit for a long time as it would not pass inspection. Because it sat for so long, the Jeep got towed from the previous owners apartment complex and was in a tow yard. The PO had been on an extended trip out of town and in less than a month it had racked up almost $800 in fees. As far as it's condition, I could only go on his word and a couple pictures. He would not pay to get it out unless he could sell it.

While talking to him I found out he was also a fan of Expedition Portal, and I could tell that the Jeep was his baby. He just currently did not have the finances to get the Jeep out and back to a DD condition, but also didn't want to see it get crushed/parted out.

Armed with my truck, a U'Haul trailer, 2 good buddies to help push, and after asking as many questions as I could, I decided to roll the dice and payed $900 for the Jeep. I figured at the very least I could part it out and make my money back.

Got it home and after about 15 mins on a pair of jumper cables the Cherokee fired up.

Here's my $900 Jeep Cherokee.

Highlights

-Clean Blue Texas Title.
-It has the maroon interior, and all power windows/locks/seats. (would rather have manual. may convert)
-It does have slight damage to the hood and both front doors, but everything closes and latches.
-Had 4 matching tires with 20% tread, 2 non matching tires with 40% tread, and the spare on the inside. That's 11 tires total including the ones on the Jeep. Already in the process of selling them. Probably going to make back 15-20% of my $900.
-Shifts Smooth, Idles Great, Drives Straight, No Weird Noises
-All 4x4 modes engage (242 Transfer Case)
-Almost everything that could leak, does leak:coffee:

Basic Plans
-2.5 to 3.5in lift
-31in tires
-Rear cargo drawers
-Roof rack
-RTT (budget allowing)
-Armor
-8k lb Winch
-Lighting

Build will start slow since I am currently buying my first house. However, I plan on posting all my work as I go along and would love any questions/information/criticism any one has to offer! :)
