Some of these go for insane amounts, like 100k. Gowesty.com has some info.

I'd take it for 18k if my wife would let me. But that being the starting bid....18k probably wont take it.

Spoke with the owner yesterday. Really nice guy, and sounds like a nice van that has been well maintained. However, it has been repainted, and had seam rust repair. I think I would rather have ugly paint, and see all of the flaws.

Does anyone know the reasoning regarding why the Westy pop top does not cover the entire roof line? Why is the little front piece not part of the pop top?

I realize that the Vanagon roofline is longer than mine, but the top does not take advantage of the extra length, and it seems like everyone would like to maximize the bunk space.

I imagine the reasoning is for structural integrity or for security of latching in the down positon, but I seem to have no issue with either of those.

Just curious.

I suppose if I really cared I'd ask on the Samba.

Wow. I rmember looking at used ones in the mid '90s for $14k.

Hey, there was a Westy I looked at in Bellingham about 6 or 8 yrs ago owned by a young guy named Wes something or other and his Westy was named The Wesel.

I would love to have one of those!

Me too. Also, not sure why the pop top does not extend the entire length of the van, but, I am right at 6' tall, and the upper bunk is the perfect size for me. Also, the cargo area in front of the pop top is a nice feature. It is a nice little design, and I'm pretty happy with mine...just wish it was a Syncro.

StClair,

You said you spoke with him, is this his baby or did he purchase it to sell it? Did he happen to mention how many owners and where the dub has spent most of it's time, east coast??

Just curious, I keep trying to sell the wife on one for here run-around car with the kids and for quick getaways up the hill or out to the island. I've been fortunate to have been able to have a few of these before being married with kids and really enjoyed them, but they need to have the Subaru conversion done to make them truly enjoyable. I'm to used to cruising at 75-80 anymore to go back to the 2.1. with all it's unreliability and issues, but maybe that half the charm, who knows.

¡I've been robbed!

$18K for a Syncro Westy !!! ??? !!!

Several years ago, I laughed all the way to the bank when I sold my 1987 Syncro Adventurewagen for $12K. Sounds like the buyer laughed all the way home from the bank with the steal he got on an even cooler vehicle.

It will go for more than 18k, unless he has hidden problems.

If you are looking for a reputable source, I have visited this place and the owner seems very good. Pretty sure that they have been in business for a long time and compared to some other VW specialty places he seems more reasonable.

www.jdbimports.net.

He has 3 synchros now.
