Hello,

New member here. Check out my 1991 Toyota Hilux Global Galaxy motorhome. Factory 2.8L diesel 4x4 SAS. Started its life in Japan before being imported into the US in 2016. 

Any ideas what I should insure it for? I'm having problems finding an insurance company to insure it because its not a sunrader, or US model... let alone establish a value due to the vehicle being so rare.

I think you might need to go for a stated value policy. Your insurance company may ask for an appraisal, which is actually pretty easy. (On one classic car I owned the appraiser asked what I wanted the policy amount to be, and worked backwards from there!)

It might make sense to look at what it would cost to get another one into the country and go from there.

No doubt stated value policy. Not a big deal and really the only safe way to insure a vehicle thats not stock or is a rare bird. We do the same thing in the sailboat world. There are lots of boats worth more than their depreciated original age/condition. As such we simply set the replacement value as X and the insurer simply adjusts the policy cost to accomidate the set value. With cars they generally want an official estimate to confirm your stated value etc.

Insurance agent here. Agreed/Stated Value. It's done all day long on RVs, Boats, Collectible vehicles. You'll usually need an appraisal. I can't name a specific company, but call Flo. ;)

I can cruise 60-70mph no problem but that's top speed... At least as fast as I want to go!

Yep ours would bounce between potholes at 100-120 kph but getting there took forever. We did try adding a turbo to one but there were too many hassles with keeping it cool in our environment.

I think that is a sweet cabin though. The pop up on the nose is an interesting concept. Might be something for me to consider for the land cruiser I have inAustralia.

This thread is a while old, but I thought I would post here just in case,

I have one of these for sale right now - search for my thread "Toyota Hilux Global Galaxy for sale"

I do like what Yotarhome has done with his, very cool.
