1992 Chevy Blazer 4x4 rear end repair after 2 years not driven or started...

My friend at work has a1992 Blazer 4x4 with something broken on the rear. She was driving on city streets, turned and something went, "crunch," and it would not move. It was a daily driver with 200,000 miles on it, well maintained but old. It was towed to her dad's house and never fixed about two years ago. She is going to have it towed to a local shop for diagnosis and repair.
Any advice?
I said check the rear diff. Make sure the battery is ok. Not sure what else to start with.
Thank you for any tips...

Yes it is a 4x4. Any upgrades that can be put on for better reliability for the future, such as better gears, different brand?

Just go out to pick and pull and snag one. there a bunch in the junkyards.
You should be able to get some info off of the vin. The vin decoders should tell you what gear ratio etc.

As far as starting it, make sure batt is charged, pull the spark plugs and inspect. spray a little wd40 down the spark plug holes. pour some marvel mistery oil in the oil.
let sit for a few days then try to start.
Check plug wires/cap for damage. replace if needed.

gas treatment in the tank to treat fuel

Some good advice from the helpfull people here at Expo. The rear end can be quickly checked by removing the rear cover. Any sign of ground metal bits and its time to replace it. As someone mentioned prevoiusly it is a good idea to sparay a little wd40 or some other penetrating oil in the spark plug holes. You can turn the motor gently by grabing the fan belt and vibration dampner and turning slowly. Alternativly you can use a big socket and a breaker bar on the vibration dampner nut. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Cheers, Chilli...:)

Anyone know of any sales on rear diff parts? Gears?
Thanks

Replacing rear diff pinion and gears requires experienced personel that know what they are doing. If those parts are in need of replacement you are much better off getting a used axel from a wrecker. It will also be cheaper. I hope this helps. Cheers, chilli...:)

For the price of rear gears and possibly a limited slip you can buy a replacement rear end with both of those things at a pick and pull. If its just a matter of replacing what is there go that route. If you're changing gearing to something other than factory options, then I'd go that route.
