1994 Land Rover Discovery - Burbank CA

This truck was bought by me in late 1994 by the OW. It was in a slight fender bender and had one of the front fenders replaced at that time. Since then it has been a very reliable car but the years have taken a toll on it.

First the good:
Runs good and has never had any engine issues.
Body is straight.
Old Man Emu medium duty suspension,
BFG AT's
Leather interior.
Replaced rotoflex coupling about 2 years ago.
British Pacific Running Boards that are strong as heck and have saved me from damaging the sills on several occasions.
Regular oil changes.

Now the bad:
Last week I had a small fire in the engine compartment caused by PS fluid on the exhaust manifold. I put it out right away and there was no damage to the engine or components. The only thing that burned away were years of built up oil and PS fluid. I was in East LA when it happened and drove it home to Burbank afterward and had no issue.
The headliner sags big time.
The windshield is cracked.
The SRS light is on all the time.
Rear door opens only with key.
Rear windows and sunroof are temperamental.
Power steering leak.
Typical Land Rover oil leaks.

I will try and get the engine steam cleaned soon. If I had cleaned it sooner I do not think there would have been the small fire.

This would make a great platform to build a trail rig or if you put a little time into it it would be a fine daily driver.

Since I bought my 130 6 years ago the Discovery has been driven very little now that the 130 is my daily driver. With a little TLC it will be a fine truck again.

Truck is Black with tan leather interior.
Auto transmission.
Brush bar in front and rear tail lamp guards.
139,731 miles on odometer.
Tires have lots of miles left on them.

Asking $1,800 obo

Hey Kevin,

Try listing it on ebay with no reserve and starting at $1 (which is cheaper to list). Somebody would definitely buy it and chances are it would sell for more than $1800.

Cheers,
Graham

I thought about that but I would like to sell it to someone who is relatively local. I sold a car to a guy on the east coast once and the logistics were a pain. I'll see where it goes. There are some parts on it I would like for my 130 so I wont be heartbroken if it doesn't work out.

Well I suppose you can't have too many oil leaks so there are some advantages in transferring them from the Disco to the D130. :D It just seems a shame to part out a vehicle that works.

Hard to beleive that these vehicles sell that cheap. Someone is in for a good deal here.

Blue Book for a 94 Disco in fair condition is $2900. The truck runs good but as mentioned the power steering leak needs to be addressed at some point. I have just been topping it off for the past few years being too cheap to get it fixed.

It would make a great starter truck for someone looking to get into off road adventure.

do you think it would take to fix the various items that you listed as problems?

I'm sorely tempted, mainly cause I could use something a little bigger than the Subaru but I can't buy into a money pit no matter how good the initial deal is.

I'm in Pasadena, any chance of taking a look at it?

It could simply be a hose or the steering box. My gut tells me it's the hose. A remanufactured steering box will run about $300 from www.britishpacific.com in Santa Clarita, if it's the high pressure hose it will run you about $40

I have found that with Land Rovers you just have to make it a hobby to do routine maintenance. I have done that with my daily driver Rover and I have had zero issues with it and it's over 20 years old. I have neglected the disco for years and the steering leak is the first real issue I have had with it in almost 15 years of ownership.

Feel free to come over and take a look at it. Be sure and give me fair warning so I can wash it and Armor-All the tires to make it look presentable and prettier than it really is:D
