Sold

1995 Land Cruiser - $9,300 170,000 miles - Southern California truck.
The details;

- This is a Texas/Southern California truck. Rust free!
- Factory lockers
- 3rd row seating
- ARB bull bar
- Warn 12,000 lbs. winch
- 4" lift with OME J-shocks
- 35" Goodyear MTR's
- Castor correction (Slee kit, I believe)
- Hannah Quality sliders
- Transfer case skid plate
- Upgraded tie-rods
- Longfield axles
- Re-geared to 4.88's. It accelerates and cruises very nicely
- Hella map light
- Cobra CB installed in-dash
- Blue Sea aux fuse block
- AC blows cold enough to be able to actually inflict pain
- Engine temp is rock solid. On a recent trip to Sequoia National Forest the needle didn't move going over "The Grapevine" (10 mile steep climb to over 4,000 feet) in over 100 degree heat fully loaded with about 500 lbs of camping gear and dogs. I never dropped below 65 MPH, never turned off the A/C and the truck never protested.

All the recent maintenance you want to know is done;

- The knuckle joints on the front axle were replaced (knuckles/birfield joints, bearings, hubs, rod ends, studs, seals) by TLC (legendary Land Cruiser gurus in Van Nuys, CA). I am not talking about the standard Birf service for $1000, but a $2,700 total rebuild done with all new, shiny parts and up to TLC standards.
- Rear brakes/parking brake rebuilt by TLC
- Brand new oxygen sensors
- Ne brake fluid cap and sensor
- Passed smog check with flying colors on 10/23/10
- Very thorough inspection done by TLC when I bought it (7/09). Everything they found, I had them fix
- Infamous Pesky Heater Hose (PHH) replaced with the $25 high-end green silicone will-last-forever hose and Constant Tension clamps so you will never have to deal with it again.
- Coolant system flushed and filled
- Transmission flushed and filled
- Brake lines flushed and filled
- Power steering flushed and filled
- 2.2kW starter was rebuilt
- Air tube between the air filter and the throttle body replaced with nice, flexible new one.
- Newer battery (not a sexy high-end expedition-type battery, but totally fine for its intended purpose)

Even better, the PHH and all fluids looked really good when I did the work so the previous owner had obviously kept up on maintenance. All this is to say the vehicle has been prepared pretty well and is ready to go. I never planned on selling it. I was actually planning on getting started on a rolling restoration and eventually wanted to drive through South America so doing things right the first time was a high priority.

The imperfections;
- The previous owner stripped the VIN plates off. A replacement was put on, it checks out and I had no trouble getting it registered. I'm not sure why he did it which is part of the reason I had TLC put it up on a lift and go through it very carefully. They didn't find any evidence of an accident other than a replaced passenger door. It is a good replacement and you wouldn't notice it, but the fact is that it isn't original.
- It uses about a quart of 0-w40 Mobile One every 2,000+ miles (which sounds pretty common).
- Three dents (one at the bottom rear of the front passenger side fender, one on the rear bumper cap and one on the passenger side rear door around the handle area) and a little wear on the ARB, but nothing very significant. You can see all three dents if you look closely at the third picture.
- The front seats need to be recovered, but all the rest are in good shape.
- The rear tires will need to be replaced in the next year or year and a half.
- The spare tire is the correct size and brand new, but is a BFG AT and, since a 35 inch tire won’t fit in the stock location, it sits in my garage except for trips. I was planning on switching all the tires over hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Otherwise it is a great truck. I honestly wouldn't have any qualms about driving it into South America right now. It is very solid and I am just not using it often/hard enough to justify having it. Like I said, I was never planning on selling it, but the fiancé is going to vet school, I seem to be using it mostly for commuting 60 miles a day and we need the money more than the truck.
I'm not really in a rush to sell it (quite the opposite actually) so I'm fairly firm on the price. Considering what has been done to build up and baseline the truck, I think that is a very reasonable price.

Thanks, Tyler

It was regeared to 4.88's. Head gasket is unknown. The previous owner is impossible to get ahold of. The PHH was done and he didn't mention it, but I don't know about the head gasket. No signs of oil/coolant mixing that I have seen though and it runs very well.

Head gasket been replaced?

Regear?

Sent you a PM. Thanks

Just realized I accidentally deleted the portion about the antenna when I re-wrote my original description. The mast is missing the mechanism and the motor are still there and the motor works, but there is no ariel. I currently have the radio run through the CB ant, which works really well.

This is rather bothersome. Is the title clear? Was this a theft-recovery? Was the original VIN ever ran and confirmed?

Yeah, I wasn't happy about it - especially since I didn't find out until I got it back to Los Angeles from Austin, TX. The shop I paid there (Bearden Automotive) failed HORRIBLY on the birfield service I paid them for (they did it so poorly I had to have TLC totally rebuild the hubs) and they missed several important issues (like the rear brakes were shot and the VIN numbers were stripped). I don't know why they were stripped. The previous owner was selling the truck because he was going to China, so getting a hold of him has proven a little difficult. But, after having TLC take care of the truck and after having it for a while, whatever the reason doesn't bother me anymore. It is a great truck and I've been totally happy with it. I do know no signs of a significant accident have been found and I'm usually pretty good about finding something like that - I'm sure TLC is even better.
The title is totally clear. I had the Highway Patrol check it out and it came up totally clear.
