1995 Montero SR engine

I'm working on bringing a 95 SR back to life, the engine needs replacement the previous owner ran it low on oil, it's seized.

I understand the 3.5 from 1994-96 will work, they're hard to find. Anyone have a line on a reman or good used one?

Thanks

You can get a takeout engine from a junkyard. Just make sure everything is the same. Engine size, Dual OverHead Cam vs. Single OverHead Cam. Stuff like that. This way you can just plug in all of the electrical harness clips without worrying about the ECU not working with the replacement engine. I'm more of a proponent of overhauling the original engine for that very reason.

there was a 3.5 dohc on the montero sale page on face book for 600 bucks with only 30k on a complete overhaul.

I'm in WI, to bad PA is 700 miles from me, it's still available.
Not much used, I check car part every few days. Nothing in the yards around here either.

yea, the '95 if you want a complete one is going to be a bugger. Its the pre-OBD II engine. 1 year only. Are all of your intake / Exhaust and electronics "good" to swap to a different year vehicle? Maybe look at at Hyundai Santa Fe / Kia Sorento (2003 and newer) possibly others) rumor is they are the same Mitsubishi 3.5L DOHC engine base. You would need to swap all your controls / electronics over. You should be able to ship an engine for $150 to $200 across the country. I've done it more than once.

Still trying to get the engine from a local jy from a 2003 sorrento to compare with my SR 3.5. I'm stuck waiting for him to remove it. Mine is sitting on an engine stand, I have a workbench cleared off for disassembled parts and all.

I've seen a few complete trucks around locally but when they already have 240k+ miles on them it doesn't seem to be worth the effort to swap. I'd like to avoid being in the same boat again soon.
Everything else on the motor is good, the 3.5 Kia option is interesting. Please update when you compare them.

Does anyone have a contact at an engine rebuilder?
These guys should be able to quickly confirm or deny the Hyundai/Kia 3.5 and Mits 3.5 interchange.
